Who is J. Roussel?

Hello there, Does anybody here know the identity of the J(eanne) Roussel co-credited as writer of "The Partisan" on the Isle of Wight live album? From what I've gathered, this song was written by Emmanuel d'Astier (French poem), Anna Marly (music), and Hy Zaret (English words) -- and arran...

Re: HAPPY BIRTHDAY, LEONARD!

Dear Leonard, Have a red needle on me tonight -- whether it's before or after the show is entirely up to you. Thanks a lot for stopping by Oslo on your tour this summer and making us shiver in the hot summer night! (Even the soundcheck made ears turn.) Being a fan of your latest output also, I hope ...

It's easy to confuse the terms remixed and remastered. Sony did make new duplication masters for the three 2007 releases, from the 2-channel final mixes made in 1967, 69, and 71 – but they did not go back to the multichannel (8 or more), unmixed studio tapes and make new 2-channel mixes. (Which is w...

I agree with Tom. The new remasters sound good. Compared to the previous releases it's like having some dirt removed from your ear. I find that the bonus tracks sound even better. They were mixed in 2006, in the style of the original records, and this is what all the early recordings could sound lik...

It seems Cohen himself chose the bonus tracks. For some reason he did not choose "Priests". And who knows whether the master tape is still intact.

Tom, Yes, I did! -- and subsequently updated the Wikipedia page on New Skin for the Old Ceremony . Speaking of Came So Far for Beauty -- do you know if there is any lossless concert recording out there? I have a rather poor MP3 set, where the music sounds great but the audio rather so-so (it's now o...

Just thought I'd mention that a soundboard recording of "Chelsea Hotel" (#1) from Israel 1972 is now available at the FTP server mentioned elsewhere in this forum. The sound quality is excellent. Leonard introduces the song by saying "Here's a new song that we just wrote a couple of w...

It's not just you, Last Year's Kevin:

I, too, think that songs from Death of a Ladies' Man could be done much better in a different way. I love the album but it's not easy on the ears.

Tom, I didn't realize that Field Commander Cohen is edited to such an extent! (By the way, is the interview you refer to available online?) It is stated in the booklet that songs are taken from different shows, as is natural -- but that portions of individual tracks were cut and pasted here and ther...

Tomislav, Some people say that the first "import" CD of VP (from Passport Records?) sounds better than the Sony CD. One should think that when the Sony remasters were made in 1995 (SoLaH, NSftOC, VP), their first editions would no longer be in sale, but I just don't know (I don't know abou...

Karen Jo Fields: "Famous Blue Raincoat"

Norwegian singer Karen Jo Fields has included a beautiful cover of "Famous Blue Raincoat" on her new album, In Your Pages, featuring piano, strings, and a few other instruments.

Tom, Veteran Vic Anesini is credited for remastering the mentioned albums at Sony Music Studios, New York, in text taken from some catalog and quoted at for instance http://cduniverse.com/ and http://www.buy.com/ . I suspect the source is Muze Inc. What do you mean by "REAL remaster"? My g...
