Re: Announcement of the Nov 27 concert in Phnom Penh
Lizzy, I am done. The missionary zeal is rather too much, and we have bored people enough. The posts are there, and people can decide what to think for themselves, no matter how much you or I would wish otherwise. And I do not want my irritation with your intolerance of criticism to be seen as irrit...

Re: Announcement of the Nov 27 concert in Phnom Penh
First Lizzy I can assure you that not everyone who wrote has received a reply. Second I have been informed by another poster here that not all the replies have been as kind or perhaps as polite. I can understand this, if true. This is a stressful incident and people are busy, and a lot has to be don...

Re: Announcement of the Nov 27 concert in Phnom Penh
Not everyone who has written to him has received that offer or even a reply and it is tough to get to the US and back in a weekend. Believe me I would.
Which is not to say it's not a kind offer.
But I just wonder why you feel obliged to keep fanning the flames.

Re: Announcement of the Nov 27 concert in Phnom Penh
From what I heard the Dylan incident was a familiar story.
Lousy local promoter. Even though a gig in Hong Kong was announced, no venue was booked
I blame the Chinese government for many things, but not for this one.

Re: Announcement of the Nov 27 concert in Phnom Penh
Aren't you in HK, Gary? Surely that will be one of the stops if/when they do Asia. I know that doesn't nearly offset your current disappointment and predicament, but it helps a little. Yes I am. I'll hope for the best, but simultaneously not get my hopes up. The Rolling Stones, Santana, Jeff Beck, ...

Re: Announcement of the Nov 27 concert in Phnom Penh
"The "not working out of the concert" was no evil plan" I missed the part where one single person said it was. However I didn't miss the part where you have said it was the fans' own fault. It amazes me that in defending their idol some have to make up claims that are false, like...

Re: Announcement of the Nov 27 concert in Phnom Penh
Thank you, thank you, thank you, Robert Kory (and "Gala") for this information. I did not receive this, despite writing to him a good while ago. I must confess it's pretty much as I'd expected. It is what we were hoping for in terms of an explanation (although not as much as we were hoping...

Re: Announcement of the Nov 27 concert in Phnom Penh
Some people thought that this would be a place they could air their disappointment and anger (whether or not misplaced) and where others who loved Leonard Cohen's work would understand.
They reckoned without the doctrine of infallibility.

Re: Announcement of the Nov 27 concert in Phnom Penh
And how many concerts in Asia Nicole? Believe it or not, it is more than just "a corner" of the world. "Leonard Cohen remains committed to performing in Cambodia in 2011 and Cohen, Robert Kory Management and AEG Live retain their full confidence in the local promoter, the Mekong Sessi...

Re: Announcement of the Nov 27 concert in Phnom Penh
Loyalty is a two way thing. Let's see if the promised "postponed" concert comes off before we make a judgement on that. I would not like to see TWO promises broken. I'd rather not be furnished with the illusions in the first place. I am skeptical. I do not think the whole team can be broug...

Re: Announcement of the Nov 27 concert in Phnom Penh
Lizzy, you have not seen me accuse Leonard or Kory of anything other than fallible judgement. And if the judgement were flawless there WOULD be a concert. However, I have been careful not to express my true feelings about Chris Minko, who says he KNOWS how Cambodia operates. As for : "Had no on...

Re: Announcement of the Nov 27 concert in Phnom Penh
Lizzy, first, if people were not dedicated fans they would hardly be so upset. There's something really not quite so pleasant about seeing people here with a list of a dozen concerts they've attended at the end of their posts telling many who had hoped to attend ONE in their lifetime that they have ...

Re: Announcement of the Nov 27 concert in Phnom Penh
Unfortunately there are other rather awkward parallels to be drawn from that theft. Like being careful whom you trust. And LC isn't the only one who needs to put a nest egg away. I've just blown part of mine on a trip to Cambodia.

Re: Announcement of the Nov 27 concert in Phnom Penh
Incidentally Geoff, I booked my air tickets and hotel just a few days before the cancellation. I even bought the concert tickets late (having learned about the concert late) and was both pleased and a little alarmed by how good the seats were. They were clearly not selling all that well. I very much...
