Re: disappointment with the man and his music

I'm a relative newcomer to this forum, but I like Leonard's music. I thought I would take a few moments and answer a few of your issues as I felt about them. In the 70s I loved his music and words, inspirational, then I wondered sometimes. His character didn't always fit his projected image, e.g. ne...

Re: Hello, I'm new to this forum... (introducing yourselves)

Hi Willy, I am fairly new here too. In college fraternities, the newly-initiated are responsible for "educating" the pledges. I don't purport having any special wisdom about this board, but I would like to welcome you and tell you that there are some pretty amazing people here, Leonard fa...

Re: Darby is our newest moderator - check your passwords!

Congrats Darby. It's slightly off topic but I heard on another forum there was an exploit attempted; a new member was PM'ing people asking that they e-mail them back, (for some lame reason). If one does so, they have a legitimate e-mail address and will use it for mischief. If one get a such a reque...

Re: Dan Seals (1948 - 2009)

Hi, I'm a relative newbie here but I may have noticed a Seals reference in some other post. I'm sorry to hear the news about Dan. I clicked on one of your links to 'visit' a few of his songs and recalled there was an old favorite of mine not listed; Old Yellow Car . "and if engines could run on...

Re: Hello, I'm new to this forum... (introducing yourselves)

Mary......I have toured that site recently whilst googling. I saw the compulsive disorder link; pretty funny, pretty apt. My friend who i had sent some links...... after I sent the last one (IIBYW_webb sisters) I promised that I'd stop bombarding his mailbox with utube links. :) See? I'm not compuls...

Re: Rolling Stone: The Playlist Issue

I'm with you. The song ends with; "sincerely L.Cohen," then there's "Jane" And then the third party whom the writer refers to as "my brother, my killer". Seems like a guy to me. That works out to 2 guys and the mutual object of their love; Jane. That's how this thin gyp...

Re: Cohen, Dylan, and Waits work together on NEW XMAS CD (JO

I think this is what Cohen was writing about when he said he had seen the future . I laughed out loud several times. The Tom Waits humor was probably the best, but it was all fun Anyway, this might be the holy trinity of poet musicians. I wonder how the artists enjoyed the article when it foun...

Re: Rolling Stone: The Playlist Issue

“Fantastic framed sculptures" is how Wainwright describes the music of Leonard Cohen. "It's daunting to listen to his music as a songwriter," Wainwright says, "but it's worth the challenge: It'll just make you better." “Famous Blue Raincoat” 1971 A wonderful, theatrical pas...

Re: Hello, I'm new to this forum... (introducing yourselves)

Mary ...... I started going through the playlist of albertnoonan today. Holy cow! I already identified many that I had already seen, appreciated; shared. I will spend more time enjoying what I missed, thanks to the excellent records of the concerts. I also wanted to be clear, although I had praised...

Re: Hello, I'm new to this forum... (introducing yourselves)

Hello Willy, I think many of us here stopped going to concerts a while back also, but once you have seen LC perform live, nothing compares, and you get hooked. His concerts take his words and music to a whole different level. I hope that if he ever tours again, you find a way to get to at least one...

Re: Hello, I'm new to this forum... (introducing yourselves)

Thank you Mary and a hello. Thanks for the heads up on albertnoonan . I have watched a number of his vids of the recent concerts, and earlier shared one with a friend (IIBYW-Webb sisters/cohen). You know how it is, you hear a song, and in this instance a newer distinct take on it and then you end up...

Re: Hello, I'm new to this forum... (introducing yourselves)

Hi Lizzy...... well, some of it is that I have preferred albums; that can kind of be self limiting. Some of it may be a sense...... an incorrect view that artists have a shelf life and do some of their best work early; not always true, especially with Leonard, but true enough for some artists ...

Re: Hello, I'm new to this forum... (introducing yourselves)

Well...why not? I just joined, I suppose I will say hello but I am more in the lurking mode. I have been a fan for 40 years and due to getting a faster computer and faster computer connection I am "wasting" more time wandering through utube. About 6 weeks ago I was wandering and reacquaint...
