I have an ongoing wish that LC would perform in New Orleans; not sure if he has ever been here; if he came, he might not want to leave. New Orleans has been characterized as "A city of fallen angels seeking the limits of grace.." ; which captures the libertine spirit of the city; and describes a perfect venue for Leonard's lyics and poetry.

Hey Charco! I wasnt around too much in '88. Just when my parents let their 6 year old son out. But they did provide me with an endless supply of Cohen tracks as we regularly crossed the country from Kerry to Dublin. I recently drove from Tralee to East Cork with the old man and he was a bit taken aback when I threw on the "So Long Marianne" CD. He had a little story about every song, about him and his friends when they were my age and what they were up to at that stage of THEIR lives. A rare insight! Dad, you old dog!!!
Favourite song? Well if I had to pick one id say it'd have to be Famous Blue Raincoat. Sad, but cant help feeling involved.

Im passing on the interest though. The 14 year old little sister knows all the poetry to the early albums since she was about 4 and her favourite song is The Partisan! And not a word of French by her!!!

We have thrice removed a message (the same message!) from this thread; one of the members offered money to another member for Leonard's private email address. This thread deals with the tour, and we find such a public offer also inappropriate. If you want to contact Leonard, please make use of the contact info on the "Latest News" page of the main site.

BTW - news from Los Angeles indicate that rehearsals of the new band are progressing well!

Jarrko,
I cannot deny it - 'twas I who offered the money.
£100 stg.
It seems the irony was lost on you.
Did you think, old bean, that I'd offer THAT amount for an address? (Not an e mail address, by the way. Only the full-monty postal would do!)
Heavens no.
£5 is my max.
It was a JOKE, old chap.
Leonard comes here to tea on a regular basis, in fact there's seldom a month that passes that I don't hear his bicycle on the gravel outside and then that familiar tap on the window pane and that voice crying, as though in the wilderness: "William, old boy, is the kettle singing on the hob?"
Money indeed!
And I thought it was only our American friends who were weak in the irony department.
I'm surprised. And disappointed! ;-)

Hi William
from your text it was impossible to judge that it was a joke. You would be amazed what kind of email
requests, offers, ultimatums etc. I receive on a regular basis. Almost all of them are written very
seriously. Maybe that has made me quite (too?) suspicious. Two weeks ago I was offered 1000 usd
if I organize a dinner with Leonard for the wife of the person (the wife was going to have her 50th birthday).
Needless to say that all those requests go directly to the trashbin.

Without knowing a person one cannot know whether he is writing with tongue in the cheek or
seriously. Adding some smilies would help! Sorry for the misconstruction!

Hi Boy Wonder

Your Dad obviously felt it important that your musical and cultural development be nurtured from an early age and what better way than introduce you to Mr Cohen --I also have a 'Boy Wonder' who who was also nurtured from 1988 when he was 7 years old and calling him a fan now of Leonard's is an understatement !!! --In the event that the Tour does not come to Ireland he has already made contingency plans for my self , his mother and himself to go to New York and hopefully catch Leonard there.

He has started to learn the guitar and this morning we woke to the distinctive opening riff of 'Suzanne ' --what a way to wake up !!!

Keep up the devotion and roll on March 11 !!!!

As an impartial onlooker of the offer to buy Leonard's e-mail address, I also did not detect the irony. Leonard is, after all, a highly commercial artist. Some jokes go over like a lead balloon, and this was one of them. :( That doesn't mean the jokerman is not invited to try again. :D

The $1000 offer for dinner with Leonard Cohen sounds a bit low; perhaps he didnt value the artist , or thought little of his wife; how about a charity auction on Ebay ("Dinner for Two with....")

***he offered me those thousand bucks for being the middleman... it never became clear how much he was prepared to pay for the dinner itself because I didn't take the assignment ! / Jarkko

For $1000 I will arrange dinner for him with my ex-wife; who is also over 50; and has no interest in Leonard Cohen.

In the nature of things there is unlikely to be a queue of wanton women forming to accompany you to dinner. Given the many challenges you face - a blinkered view of anywhere other than England’s fair and pleasant land, a somewhat restricted budget, a noticeable streak of impatience, and, at the risk of being indelicate, a necessity to be within a certain radius of public toilets - realistically, how far from home can you stray? Would it be Tesco’s on the High Street? As your namesake wrote ‘there is a tide in the affairs of men’ etc. In your case it may have gone out.
You only have to let the soft animal of your body
love what it loves.
