Tom-do you have advance knowledge saying that ALL the venues will be on festivals? (I thought at least a few are going to escape) That is extremely disappointing; being in the same situation as you-that is, having to travel to another country for the concert-I really don't want to spent the money and time to see some bands I never heard about!

A bit of a mean suggestion-Jarkko, maybe it would be better to post relevant information about the tour on a locked thread? I remember I saw the post about the password and how to get tickets someplace, but I'll be damned if I know where in the 9 pages of this very fast-growing thread!

Hi Laura... there was something in the very beginning of this thread... However we all have to wait until March 11 to get really relevant information!

To put that into even clearer perspective, Antoine... as of this writing, 437 of those have been since March 1 [5 days and some hours]; and 126 of that 437 have been today. There will likely be more before the day ends.

One thing I can say for sure is that this bodes well for there being a Winter tour.

I didn’t join this forum to get tickets. When I heard Leonard Cohen would be touring in 2008, I joined the forum way back in January ;-) to ask questions (although I didn’t feel the need to actually post ‘til recently). I had no idea advance tkts would be made available to “loyal” fans. If I am not included in that group as judged by TPTB, so be it.
Do I want two tickets; of course I do! But I am certainly not going to grovel or beg or otherwise justify my existence on this forum or in this particular thread.

I find it sadly amusing to see all the backbiting and “desperation” posts being made. I will be waiting for a performance here in America, where LC has always been less popular than in Europe and Canada. I hope I am not being blissfully naive, but I don’t think getting tickets in the USA will be an issue.

That being said,

Good luck to us all…

I totally agree with Irene. I'm a fan of LC but not familiar with computer. I was looking everyd day since november (or october) for the venue of the show. On the news agencies like reuters or AFP, it was said that all informations will appear on the "official web site of LC". I immediatly went to this web site and I found Jarrko's forum. That means that Mr Cohen totally agreed with this form of communication.
So sorry for the people participating to the forum since 2002, but we are all fans and it's not a sin to use the opportunity of internet when it' said by the people of LC themselves.

I forgot to say something : don't be so nervous. We are all spread all around Europe (I'm sure that you recognised my french accent). That means that it will be not so terrible at the end between people triying to get tickets in France, Germany, England and ..

Hi Cat75 ~

With your being a cat, I think I may make [or at least I'll try to make] this my last comment on all this. Though it may seem that way, I'm not trying to be mean-spirited with my own comments, in addition to those of others. With the things I'm saying, I'm going far beyond my own interests in enjoying Leonard's initial goodwill gesture to 'us' [which goes beyond just the Forum]. If I were to begin compiling a list, it would include people I've not particularly meshed with, yet who I know in my own mind and heart are very definitely included in the net that Leonard cast with his special arrangements, and passed on through Jarkko, a mere few days ago here. It's not about who has been just here from 2002 and certainly not about whom I've meshed with or not; yet, it is about who has been involved in Leonard's 'world.' That's simply the way I believe it to be, and my every intent is to be reasonable in expressing my views concerning it.

Yes, this site ~ the quintessential one on Leonard ~ was earmarked for information regarding Leonard's upcoming tour. As has been noted and discussed here previously, this is where people will be able to find the dates and venues and ticket-purchase locations when Leonard's tour is officially announced. These can be seen without joining the Forum and as the number of guests coming here recently suggests, this has been being done, as the date of announcement has been guessed, approached, passed, and moved back. Having a single site for formal announcement is reasonable, efficient, timely, and considerate.

The thread that was initiated by Jarkko is another aspect altogether. It doesn't relate to just the formal announcement of dates, venues, and ticket-purchase locations. It was a goodwill offer made to those long-standing people of whom Leonard is aware, through one means or another, and they pretty much know who they are in their heart of hearts. Some have become Beautiful Losers and, even there, not all have, but they might as well have.

Now, those who have [perhaps] decided to change their status from "guest" to "member" [given this new development], who had likely been coming looking for the information, will still be able to find it here, as previously arranged and noted. It's not necessary to become a member to read the Forum and obtain the needed information. The sudden increase in membership seemingly relates to not just wanting tickets, but wanting the 'special offer' tickets. It's only hoped that in their own heart of hearts, they will understand and abide by Leonard's original intent.

One last note... on the scalper world. I don't know how it functions... I do know that computer hackers have networks, where they trade ideas... and I do know that the financial scams out of Africa and other places often work with many people out of a single room. My guess would be that scalpers may network, as well... a group of them all getting tickets to all the concerts they can and then trading off, as to who has what connections, and even down to the night of the events, going outside with what they have remaining in their hands. My understanding is that it's a lucrative deal, so networking makes as much sense there as it does with hackers and scammers. Everyone gets as many tickets as they can, and then the trading begins.

This forces me to question some innocent newcomers, some of whom have been at various Cohen sites for a long time and/or some events, and have migrated here, which seems understandable and valid to me; but these sizable numbers are mind boggling... especially when it's not necessary to join to get the information; so some others of you may not know who the 'intended' are, but you do know if you're not. Tickets go on widespread, public sale through various ticket outlets on March 11. Those details can be learned here. As I've already said, that is not related to Leonard's generous offer.

I guess that's all I'll say on this, as trying to rephrase it from different angles, I don't think is going to help any.

With full respect intended for all of you, and hoping for reciprocity regarding Leonard's intention, I'll try to make this my last post.

P.S. to Verite ~ There's been plenty of carnality to go around in the Cohen world. Amongst other things, even several marriages have resulted... not to mention deep, long-lasting, real-life friendships. We're far more than just a computer-screen community.

Comrades,
I am deeply moved by the multifarious reasons given by the recently emerged hordes of lurkers for their years of silent observation here - I think one word sums up most of it: BOLLOCKS!
Yours in piety,
Red Poppy ;-)
