Red Poppy -

Can see your point here - this whole thing is "bollocks"

Why do I post?

Well I would have been happy just to "lurk" and wait for the presale info but I felt I had to give my point of view given some of the comments made by some members of the forum..... and yes, in posting here my hypocrisy is evident, but I can't get over how some people are reacting to something that was unavoidable - A new tour will generate more members.

We are all delighted that there will be presale, and if I wish to join in any discussion on lyrics, new releases, re-releases etc I will - just hope us "newbie lurker pseudo fans" aren't treated with as much hostility in other sections of the forum should we choose to post a few comments after 3/11!!!! :D

We are not trying to justify ourselves as fans, we are fans, thats why we are here.

My God this is out of hand!

You're right, this is getting out of hand, in my opinion. That's how things happen when there is a large group of people with passionate views. This was not the intent of Leonard or his management, and had he/they seen this coming, they may have had second thoughts about extending such gesture.

We're all Cohen fans, that's the bottom line. Some may have joined for the hope of a pre-sale, but certainly others didn't. Perhaps others wanted to have a say. No matter the reason, we're here. All of us. If we didn't want join before, that doesn't exclude us as fans, as it's going to be an expense and a long trip for many, that don't have the extra bucks. The numbers of new members say it all. There are a lot of Cohen fans. Period. That is the most important thing.

If we don't stop the bickering soon, in my opinion, there may be no pre-sale at all. It's on the table, we can argue all we want, but it won't get us any closer to the Holy Grail.

Wow, I just happened across this website recently and thought that it would be a lovely place to share and learn about aspects of an artist that I have adored since I first read his poetry when I was fifteen. Then I found out about the tour and was over the moon excited, there is no one I would rather see in concert. I signed up (not much of a joiner, but this sounded like a group I wanted to be a part of), and now I am starting to feel bad and unwelcome. In my excitement to learn anything about when and where his tour dates are, I came across this controversy about pre sales. Although I would happily camp out in front of my local Ticketmaster if needed (abandoning my husband and children for as long as it takes), I thought that it was really cool and generous of the powers that be to give us this chance.

There is something that I am confused about: are there really that many member (including all of us newbies) that there will be a ticket shortage even if every single member purchases a couple of tickets? I am serious, does anyone know this? If there will be an actual shortage, I can understand why everyone is so worked up. Otherwise, I don't understand why the combination of being an internet junkie and a Cohen fan makes it okay to be nasty to other fans. While you guys were busy typing and posting, I was reading his poetry, his novels and listening to his music. I am terribly sorry to those I have offended by lurking, but I don't usually use the net for much more than email and I was learning how a site like this works and waiting for a subject that I really had something to add to. I didn't want to litter a great website by repeating things others had already written, and had expressed much more eloquently than I might.

By the way, thank-you Jarkko for keeping us all so well informed, the fact that you put all of this work in is greatly appreciated!

Hooray for Tour 2008!

I can only say I have been a fan of Leonard since the 70s. Lived in Winnipeg, Canada, and never had a chance to hear him live. When I heard the he was touring again, I searched to try to get some info so I could get a chance to finally see him.

That search brought me here. Of course I joined, and have been spending hours searching threads, and learning.

Huge bonus that Jarkko is willing to help with huge advance info. Gives fans a chance to try to get tickets early before the scalpers get them. I am willing to pay the inflated prices, but would love to be able to get a decent view at a decent price, like most artists really want it to be.

So in my first post, a huge thanks to Jarrko, and the longtime members of this site. Hopefully everyone gets a chance to hear Leonard live.

Lizzytysh:

Thank-you very much for the warm welcome and the clarification! You're right, the new sign-ups seem a bit more than suspicious. This is a problem worth getting worked up about. I may be new, but I'm on board with the outrage.

By the way, does anyone know what a "tout"is? Just curious.

Absolutely agree with you - so why have you bothered becoming a member now - simply to up your chances of getting a ticket? ;-)

If you'd logged on here earlier you could have done just that - we could even have directed you to Mt Baldy.
Too late for that now so I suppose you'll have to settle for the chance of a ticket, Lorri!

Hey folks lighten up on the "us" and "them" thing. Lets just be glad that at the age of 70 years Leonard is coming out on the road again and including Europe in the tour.

Now where did I put those ornages?

Like everybody else on this forum, I am a LC-fan. Not having posted hundreds of messages on this forum doesn't make me feel less passionate about his music than those who did. Besides, a good friend of mine is a LC-fan as well and I much rather enjoy discussing Cohen's music with him than reading about it on my computer. Furthermore, there's a whole bunch of other artists that I adore but I don't browse their forums or post on them. Does that make me less of a fan? I think not! I have a job, a wife and two very young children and looking after them, obviously, takes up nearly all my time. If I had to browse all the forums of artists I like, just to prove I am a 'valid' fan, I'd best get divorced straight away, because I wouldn't have any time left to spend on my family.

This is my first and last post on this forum. I just hope that everyone on this forum gets the chance to see LC perform this year, newbies and old-timers alike.

Shankly,
if I'd only known about the wife and kids I'd never have said the things I did
And, listen comrade, it's good of you to take time out of your busy schedule to tell us this.
You join a long and growing (excuse the Freudian suggestion) list of hard cases and world-weary people whose only redemption is forty-five minutes of Leonard Live.
God bless you all - including Tiny Tim who should be putting in a heartfelt plea any day now.
Yours in brotherly love and admiration
Red Poppy.
PS Have to get back to my ailing mother now. Back later
PPS If this is your first and last time how will you get the fecking tickets.
Think again, comrade!!!!!!!
