ROTFL! Only people who've never been to either place could confuse gorgeous, sunny Nice for dull, dark Lyon. *running away, pursued by Lyonnais and Lyonnaises*)

OMG what a cheapshot!! ;-)

If I were a real lyonnais and not just married to one I'd be offended...but I still gotta point out for those that haven't been here that Lyon is neither dark nor dull; there's way more to do here than in Nice, it's way cheaper, there are way less tourists (and thus less people trying to rip off tourists), and we still get mostly south-of-France weather. I admit it would be cool to live by the sea, but I'd rather just use some of my 12 weeks of vacation a year to visit it and live in a real city :D .

Bela, another proof - not that it's needed after Shikimo's defence - that Lyon can not possibly be dull is that a replica of it is going to be built in Dubai. I bet Nice can't beat that. ;-)

Shikimo, I think you deserve to be made honory gône.

Sorry, folks, I spent my teenage years and early adulthood in Nice: it's the most wonderful place to live.

Actually, unlike Cannes, for instance,or any of the other little towns along the coast, Nice is a real, working city. It isn't a stage set. My parents had a shop (around Boulevard Gambetta - 15 mins from the Promenade des Anglais); I went to the lycée, then to university, and none of us was ever bothered by tourists. They were just those funny people who wandered around the town centre half-naked while we were going about our daily business fully dressed, like all the other inhabitants. LOL! The trick is to stay away from the tourist areas. When I was young, I wasn't allowed to go to the Vieille Ville on my own: it was the red light district, full of supposedly 'nasty' people. Now it has been cleaned up and has become the tourist area par excellence, and, of course, it's lost all its charm. But there are lots of superb places where you feel you are among 'ordinary' people.
...and we still get mostly south-of-France weather.
Pull the other one!

The day Lyon can boast anything as beautiful as the Baie des Anges and the views there, I will concede that it can be compared with Nice. Until then... The Arènes, where the boss is going to sing, are out of this world.

The Dubai thing is so preposterous, words fail me (that doesn't happen very often).

I never said Nice wasn't a lovely place; it is! I love visiting...but how does that make Lyon 'dull and dark'? By this logic I could say that Nice is 'inculte' because it doesn't have the Bienalle, or environmentally backwards because it doesn't have the Velo'v, just to mention two of the many great things about this city. Nice is neither of those things, at least no more than this bright, vibrant and thriving city is dull and dark.

Again, I agree; la Baie des Anges is magnificent, and never the same twice. But it's got nothing on les Monts du Lyonnais seen from a bicycle on a sunny winter morning after a light snow...I wouldn't trade that for anything.

...and, to resort to the most base city-argument tactic ever, your football team sucks 8) .
