Lyon concert the 9th of july

French people--and to be fair, Italians as well--are in my experience waaaay less orderly about waiting in lines than Brits--and I mean that as a complement to Brits! They just have different ideas about lines here than what I was used to in the States, and the UK seems to be even more committed to law and order in the queue than the US. However, the good news is that, specifically because lines are rather poorly respected, something as innocuous as having two family members join you is, in my opinion, highly unlikely to generate any controversy. Also, I imagine that the crowd for this show will be much more internationally diverse than average and, I would hope, respectful enough to avoid major drama. I have been to shows there, but never anyone that I was too worried about getting a seat for so I'm not quite sure what to expect...in any case, as I've said before on this forum there really aren't bad seats up there, and it's not at all clear where the 'best' seats are: depending on the wind, the sun, the way the stage is constructed, etc., you might want to be up higher or down lower or off at a bit of an angle or...you get the picture.

In any case, Lyon is a fantastic city for visiting as well as for living, it's going to be a wonderful show, and I am sure that if you get there a few hours early you will get good seats .

Hi all,
Need some hotel advice. We've decided to spend the night in Lyon after the concert instead 4 hr drive back. I would like to know which is the closest hotel to the Grande Theatre (walking distance) and this is very difficult to figure out online! I am hoping someone local on this forum can give some advice. We are really looking for a hotel we can walk to and from as we are travelling with a small child who will also be attending the concert. We have the budget for a luxury hotel on this night if neccessary... walking distance is the main factor we are looking for. Thanks in advance for any help!

Like Steve I advise to go down to the old part of the city with the "funiculaire" and then walk to your hotel or use the metro or any other suitable public mean of transportation.
Walking along the Montée Saint Barthélémy to reach the Villa Florentine is not a very good idea. Fourvière is a steep hill, and those montées are real roads and not streets (=rue) like you find in the middle of a city.
There's an interesting hotel not far from Fourvière that can be reached by funiculaire and bus (2 minutes on each, so walking might even be faster than waiting for each.) It's called Collège Hôtel and is designed like a boarding school from the 50's, with breakfast tables like classroom desks, etc. You can check it there.
For those travelling on the next morning by train or plane, it might be more convenient to have a hotel close to the main train station Part-Dieu. It is easily reached by metro (line A until Charpennes then change to line B to Part-Dieu).

When was the last time you visited the UK, Shikimo? Can't have been recently. People have these outdated ideas about this country: it's changed an awful lot in recent years. Not for the better, unfortunately.

Thank you SO much stevew and chubi for the great advice!! We have an email request in to the College Hotel (that place looks cool!). I hope they are not booked up already. At any rate, we'll use public transportation to get around. It looks like such a lovely city...wish we could spend more time there!
