julie christensen or the webb sisters

Post by marita »

I really loved the concert tonight in Amsterdam. I 've never seen Leonard perform before but I have seen a lot of video's at youtube of the master. In many of them Julie sings with Leonard. The most exiting performance is Take this waltz.
She is more powerful than the Webbsisters.

Hi Marita ~

Who knows what everyone else was doing with their life during what would have been and promises to be the course of this tour. I feel it is incredibly generous of Leonard to have included the Webb sisters in this renowned, worldwide tour. I have no wish list as to what songs might have been done that weren't, nor would I have been inclined to come up with any... every single one was a gift. I was beside-myself overflowing with joy to see Leonard and Sharon performing together. Would I have preferred seeing someone else or else[s] rather than the Webb sisters? Even though Leonard must have had an extraordinary connection with them when they met, I would have loved to have seen Julie, Jennifer, and/or Perla from previous times; or Anjani from recent times. I've no doubt that the Webb sisters will grow and mature from their time with Leonard; yet, these others are already there and would have given greater balance with Leonard and Sharon and the rest of the group. I'm not inclined to say woulda-coulda-shoulda when it was his concert to do with as he would. I longed to see one or some of the others, though. The positioning would have been more difficult and would've required more of the same sort of movement that Glass's production did, with new configurations and placements being formed. I felt VERY satisfied with Sharon's being there. For me, she was the stronghold on that side of the stage. I loved how Leonard worked "If It Be Your Will" and loved their voices and presentation on it. I didn't rely on the Webb sisters for my pleasure with the rest of the performances. Leonard was enough. Sharon and the rest were huge bonuses.

Toronto was my first time to see leonard in concert and initially i was hoping that julie and perla would be the backing singers. I also enjoyed the videos with the three of them. I loved Julie's and Perla vocals and I remeber the first time i heard Take This Waltz and Julie comes in to sing "I'll dance with you in Vienna " It took my breath away, it was so beautiful.
But that being said i thought Sharon Robinson was a great choice especially since this would be the first time songs fron Ten New Songs would be performed live. I had never heard of the Webb Sisters but i think they were a good choice. They brought a nice contrast to Sharon's and leonard's voices. I thought they all sounded great together. It was a great show.

Hai Lizzy and Frisco,

couldn't agree more with the both of you. Sharon is a very strong singer and personality. And yes the Webb sisters will mature. But I am from the Netherlands and there they always have to nag about something :D
Since yesterday I am still smiling and listening to the music in my head and my heart.

thanks

So am I, Marita. In favour of the Webb Sisters, this includes their ethereal rendition of "If It Be Your Will" ~ auditioning with that alone would've been enough to secure their hire. I would have liked for the sister on the end to have somehow physically stood out more. Visually, she tends to get almost lost in the shadows... perhaps, of her darker, long hair and her hat. Her sister's height and striking blonde hair, and Sharon being Sharon in every way, made them auto-distinctive... I just wanted to be able to see the smaller one more easily. Don't know if lighter clothing would've done it, but just something.

The Webbsisters are fine. But comparing them to Julie? Come on!
