~ and I need to be looking at changing mine to Vivianne, so it'll at least by in sync with something! I wasn't aware of this custom, and to the best of my knowledge, we don't have it in the U.S. Do you get the day off work on your name day

Elizabeth, Vivianne would be a good name for you. Isn't that out of
Avalon? In Ireland where many of the children are named for saints the children don't celebrate their birthdays but their Saint's Day, so all the kids named Francis, for example, get presents on Oct. 4, the feast of St. Francis. That's kind of a name day custom.

That's a great idea, isn't it Lightning, celebrating your name! You know, I think you're right on the Mists of Avalon connection. When I watch it again to unravel some of the complexities, I'll watch for her. It'll depend on which one she was as to whether I want that association! The women really ran full spectrum in it! You've read the book, Linmag. Can you clarify?

Thanks for the information, Linmag. I hoped [and was pretty confident] you'd come through. It seemed her name had a positive connotation, but I wasn't sure whether it was because of her character, or the sound of her name, despite her character. I'm glad to hear it was the former. It took me awhile to get past the feeling that they were mispronouncing Vivian

Yes, I perceived it as a loss, as well. It seemed the consolation she gave herself at the end regarding Mother Mary was more rationale than anything. I'll be watching it again. You said the film was much simpler [in the sense of less complex/] than the book. Don't think I'll be attempting the book. The film was enough to keep up with

. Since Elizabeth was nowhere to be found [unless there's a Swedish version of it that I couldn't recognize], I hope I have the option of adopting the one that aligns with my birth date.

ps: If name days were to follow birthdays, my name in Sweden would be Sven! Oh well. Good thing I live in Norway then.
My Norwegian name is Else, which is actually derived from Elisabet(h), I believe. Interesting, don't you think?

I hadn't spotted Elisabet! I must have really looked over the list too fast! They're not that far apart. It seemed odd to me that my name wouldn't be there, as it's such a common name historically, et al. Oh dear, I guess now I must relinquish Vivianne....so short-lived, the pleasure

Interesting my name is in my birth month. Also Marianne, my husbands last name originally was spelled as yours when his great grandfather came over here from Sweden. They later dropped the double t and s.

Poland also has a name day.

I just checked your link MarianneP, and my nameday is the 14th. of January. This gives you all a little time to gather a smaller amout from each to buy me a nice present.

I'm very interested to see where my name falls with Poland's name day, given my 1/2-Polish heritage. Name Day......what a great idea. I love it. Now people also have an option that might better meet their scheduling needs. They can celebrate Leonard's birthday or his nameday [or both]

Elizabeth,
If you were Polish your name would be Elzbieta. Your nameday would be the 18th of June, the 4th and the 8th of July, the 5th and 19th of November and maybe more. It is very popular name in Poland. Leonard's nameday is the 6th of November. So, I suggest you having your nameday the day before.

We usualy chose our nameday after our birthday. We celebrate both.

and wondering why the multiple dates for the same name. Do you have any idea on that? Does it have to do with the name's popularity? That's two now for November. I guess the name really resonates with that month. Leonard's name only gets one date there? I'll consider your thoughtful suggestion on celebrating the day prior to Leonard's day

~ however, we have a saying here that " 'Almost' only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades,"

which I must also keep in mind
