Did anyone here go to it? I was at the Queen E. theatre in Vancouver to see him in 1989. I had a really lousy seat. But I stole one from fourth row and watched him perform his first four songs up close. Then the owner of the seat came late and kicked me out, a bit insulted. I just said, woops, sorry, I didn't know, and went about 30 rows back where I belonged.
I first learned about Leonard Cohen from a really eccentric kid I met while hanging around with some other friends in Chilliwack, B.C. where I grew up. He gave me some pages of Leonard's poetry that he must have wripped out of one of his books. I think it was Let us compare Mythologies. I don't know for sure anymore but it had the poem Susanne in it. This all started a wonderful adventure into nature and also the deeper things in life that aren't always easy to describe in words. I had a lot of fun and things were always interesting from that point on until about 21 years of age. Now I am starting to rediscover my sense of wonder in a more mature, rational, calmer way. Leonard Cohen and writing poetry again are playing a big part in that. ( I also enjoy Robert Bly, The light around the body and Al Purdy, Rooms for rent in the outer planets).
Thanks for your time, Bonnie.
I'm Your Man tour
Hi Bonnie ~
Remembering how differently kids in school turned out to be as adults, I wonder how eccentric that kid ended up, and what he's doing now. Did Leonard inspire him to write, sing, play the guitar? What a gift that eccentric angel gave you.
One of the advantages of going to concerts alone is the freedom to work your way to the front
. I've been fortunate in not having the seat-holder show up, though
. At least you got four songs from a good perspective
.
I've found that Leonard's songs stand the test of time and all the angst/growth periods. I love what you've expressed with, "Now I am starting to rediscover my sense of wonder in a more mature, rational, calmer way. Leonard Cohen and writing poetry again are playing a big part in that." The last two influences you've cited sound interesting.
Thanks for sharing your discovery story.

I was fortunate to be able to see him on this tour. I saw him at the Royal albert hall, London I really enjoyed the concert despite the fact that he left the stage a lot, he probably needed a little refreshment every now and then
BTW babyblue did he do this in Vancouver too, unfortunately I have been unable to see him since, I was out of the country when The Future tour came over here.
