Randy Newman
Does anyone else here like him? He's probably not as good a songwriter as Leonard Cohen or Jacques Brel, but judging from the few of his songs I've heard he might soon be No. 3 in my favourite songwriters list, in front of Bob Dylan.
Re: Randy Newman
Randy Newman is a great man.
I met him this year. He asked if I was a musician. I said that I played the guitar and he replied with a smile: "yeah, we all play the guitar these days. It has gotten pretty popular."
A very down-to-earth guy. Great lyrics. "Old Man" and "Texas Girl at The Funeral of Her Father" always make my heart heavy.
He is a very misunderstood and underestimated writer. I can't see why people don't like him.

How did you meet him?
Re: Randy Newman
I met him after his concert in Toronto. I was sitting around after the show with my friends, we saw an open door and found a small back-stage party going on. Mr. Newman said "hey guys, hows it going?" and then we talked about how we enjoyed his concert and other stuff. Some guy kept telling us "you know, you can't be back here" and ended up pushing us back outside. But after we left, Mr. Newman came outside as well to finish our talk.
