Can anyone please give any advice on the best ways to arrive from Laguardia Airport to the Beacon Theatre area? Any info would be so greatly appreciated!
Thanks so much,
Mary

If money isn't too big an issue, I would just take a cab (should run $40-$50 with tip). That way, you're not dependent on other passengers (as in a shuttle bus) or the schedules of the various other transportation services.

Re: Transportation from Airport to Beacon Theatre
You can do different things depending on how much time you have and how much you want to spend....
Taxi of course, which will be the priciest. (yellow cabs)
There are also livery cabs(private companies), generally a little cheaper.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There are private buses that go from the airport to Manhattan, cost $14 I think one way....Makes a few stops, last being the Port Authority building on Eighth Ave/42 St.(on West Side, as is the Beacon) From there you can either take a cab up to 75th St or take the uptown #1 subway((entrances street level as well as under Port Authority) to 72 St ./Broadway.
If you're alone you'll save money by taking a bus over cabbing it all the way, if with at least one other person the cab won't be that much more than bus etc...
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The very cheapest way to do it, and assuming you have plenty of time, because it'll probably take longer due to more stops, is to take a regular NYC Transit bus, the M-60, goes from airport through Astoria Queens then into Manhattan, goes across 125 St (you're heading west), then gets to Broadway, get off at 116 St(right by Columbia Univ), there's #1 subway station right there, take it downtown to 72 St.(or quick cab ride )

Thanks so much,

I was originally planning on flying to NJ on Wed and spending the night with a friend and taking the train into Penn Station the next day. However...it seems my area is supposed to have freezing rain on Wed, so plans may change and I will fly into LGA on Thursday morning. I'll only have carryon but don't want to have to schelp it up and down subway stairs and into and off busses. I'll throw all caution to the wind and grab a cab at LGA. Heck, the price is worth it. Door to door. From what I read it's about $28. plus $4. for the bridge toll. And of course, tip. NY cabbies do get a little upset with no tip

Hopefully I can hook up with someone also heading into the city to split costs. What time do you guys arrive??
It's close!!!!!!!!!!! The heart is thumpin'

Re: Transportation from Airport to Beacon Theatre
Thank you, thank you, thank you Don, Diana, and Barbarita (for the extensive info). General consensus seems to be cab as the easiest - done. You guys made it simple. This is really appreciated!
Diana - we decided to fly in on Wednesday just to make sure in case of weather delays etc. and now you are saying you're changing your plans because of weather. What's a person to do
?
Best regards,
Mary

Re: Transportation from Airport to Beacon Theatre
I am sorry I am too late to help..
the M60 bus goes directly to Columbia University (only $2).
and a taxi from Columbia to the Beacon is no more than $5-$7.
wish I'd found this site sooner..
hope all you long-distance travellers make it safely--
