New guy here
Hello people. I'm new here. I after years of having "Take This Waltz" dug deeper and found a treasure trove of great songs and popularity! I have never done a message board thing bfore so if you'd drop a line and tell me on general what goes one and what not.
And I’ll bury my soul in a scrapbook,
With the photographs there, and the moss
And I’ll yield to the flood of your beauty
My cheap violin and my cross
With the photographs there, and the moss
And I’ll yield to the flood of your beauty
My cheap violin and my cross
Hi River's Disguise, and welcome to the Forum!
If you browse around you'll get an idea how it goes here. There's an interesting mix of the good, bad and ridiculous; from light to serious, profound to silly; with comedy and drama. Just like life, and people anywhere.
The difference here is, we have an appreciation for Leonard Cohen's works in common - and any 'battles' we may have are 'bloodless'.
How/where did you first hear LC; and what are your favourites in the "treasure trove" of songs you discovered?

Hi and Welcome to the Forum, River's Disguise
. Makera's description of it here, and her suggestions, pretty well cover it. If you answer her questions, you'll pretty well do it for me, as well. However, how did you hear "Take This Waltz"
for so many years, without hearing anything else? I really like your use of his [those particular] lines for your signature.

I appologize for not popping in here sooner...I thought I was going to get an e-mail saying someone responded to my post...so now I don't know what I said yes to! That and I lost a very good friend of mind over the weekend so I've been a little lost in my own saddness. Well let's get onto business.
Thank you for the welcomes people. It is cool to know such a diverse atmosphere is here. Otherwise this place coudl dry up. Well as far as "Take This Waltz" goes. I am very heavy in my classical music. When I started to hear Broque (sp?) and Waltz and other instrament music I looked up "Waltz" on my music finder at the time and "Take This Waltz" popped up and I not kowning it d/l'ed only to find a better song than all the true "waltz" music I've ever found. One of the reasons I loved the song is b/c I can sing as deep and as resonating as he. All those years of sports and yelling at the top of my lungs cheering my team mates on really stretched my chords and my music teacher frmo High School fell madly in love with my voice...hehehe...sadly enough I never got into singing...but we are getting off track! Back to Leonard Cohen! So yeah I sang his song loudly and proudly! It appears this part of the world has never heard of him except through his probably most well reknown song Hallelujah, but not his version which I think is the best and all pale in his shadow:-) What othersongs ahve I been blessed to have found? Well I went download happy and have 50 of his songs. I am totaly all for having Napster like programs out there other wise I woudl ahve never been introduced into the world of Leonard Cohen...and I am all the more better for havinghis songs. But I also believe in supporting my artists. I will do everyting to buy every CD he has. Yes maybe a little obssed but he has open a door I never knew exist and I want to show my full and complete support! Well here I am getting off track again! The curses of having A.D.D.! *LOL* Well Hallelujah, I love to many song to really say..but a few and I hate to choose songs over others but Everybody Know and the one he did with Tori Amos. I know he only read a poem in there but the two of them seem so perfect together. I absolutely LOVE that song! To be honest all the songs I have I don't think Ihave a single song I don't like. There is only one time where I loved every song in a single album and that's "Strang Times" by the Moody Blues. But this is every song I've heard and I knwo I've got songs from different Albums of his and I am astounded by it! He truely is God sent:-) Well onto the next paragraph!
Yes George. I have taken it from what I consider the greatest song I've ever heard. For many resons....one being I can sing the song to it's entirity and not have my voice crack! *L* Another is that it's the song that lead to hear more of his God given talent at work! Which lead me here. To this comunitee where I can proudly show my love and thanks for his artistic venue and know others out there can understand me. I am but an island surrounded by a sea of people. A people unbeknownest to a talent such as he. Sorry..my poetic side is popping out
But the single most reason why I choose this spacific names and taglines...? I dont' know..I got so wrapped up in the other reasons I have forgotten. Which bugs mean more than anythign! Well once I remember I'll be sure to say why! I do knwo that I use the tag line b/c I can relate to it with one girl I dated for two years. But yeah my memory is pretty bad. On to the next paragraph!
B/c I'm a little slow and I've never been great with metaphores and such. Could someone help brake down "Take This Waltz"? There are parts I've gotten but most I'm either not getting or I think I knwo but don't know for sure. Well I've been here taking allyour guys time up. Thank you for your consideration, it feels good to be apart of a mass who can truely appreciate such a talent. Good night all.

Dear River's Disguise ~
I'm very sorry to hear about your friend's death. I'm glad that you're able to come here to talk with us after your loss. You're welcome to come here anytime and talk as much as you want. I'll show you what you said "Yes" to; it's getting an e-mail notifying you that you've received a PM [Private Message]. I'll send you one now, so you can acquaint yourself more with that option for speaking with people here, if you want to say something privately. I'm glad you've found us, and you certainly won't be thought weird here, for loving him so much. Excellent observations on our community
.
You live so near to NYC, compared with most of us. I hope you will check into and register for attending our Leonard Cohen Event, which will be held June 11 and 12, 2004 in N.Y.C. If you'll go to Jarkko's Main Page, by clicking on the site link above, http://www.leonardcohenfiles.com and then scroll down the left-hand list, until you find the link for the Leonard Cohen Event 2004, you can find out more about it. You'll also find it talked about in the News section here.
Welcome again
