Yep. :)

For me, today, listening to Live in London, I'm enamored with the way he says "archilaud" when introducing Javier Mas. I'm quite sure I'd pay good money to see him stand onstage just saying "archilaud" for 3 hours.

What does "archilaud" mean? (it wasn't in the dictionary! )

Today I am adoring "There For You" for that two small moments, when he says "Moods of glory / Moods so foul / The world comes through / A bloody towel" and "I was there for you / My darling one".

Just when I thought I had come back to my mind, I think I'm slowly falling in love with him again.

Oh darling of angels, demons and saints

Laud and archilaud are two of the stringed instruments that Javier Mas plays on the present tour. I'm not entirely sure, but I think they are similar to the lute or bouzouki. I think 'laud' may even be just the Spanish name for the oud: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oud .

How's this for random:

I'm listening to the local CBC radio Weekend Arts Magazine, right now as we speak. The host, Mac Furlong, is making his way through the obligatory "Today in History" early morning filler. My ears perk up when I hear him say: "Today in history, nothing in particular happened to or for Leonard Cohen, so let's just play Leonard Cohen!"

(My sentiments, exactly, Mac!)

(He played Ain't No Cure for Love from Live in London.)

I turned fourteen last Wednesday and, to celebrate my birthday, I had gone with a few friends at a cafe near my house. They sang "happy birthday", I blewed the candles and stuff and then I heard a very familiar sound on the radio. It took me one second to realise it's Leonard Cohen and another three to understand which song it was. My friends couldn't stop laughing at the dreamy look on my face while I sang "There's nothing pure enough / To be a cure for love".

I love that CBC radio programme. Ain't No Cure - very fitting.

Happy belated birthday Stamatina. Pleased to see some of the younger fans here. My 18 year-old son is also a fan. :)

hydriot is on the right track. According to Google Translate (Spanish), "laud"= "lute".
Perhaps the instrument is an archlute.
A photo of an "archlute" on wikipedia shows more strings than an oud and a different shape.
I think we need an ancient instrument expert to set us all straight.

I attended Synagogue services this morning to celebrate the holy day of Shavuot.
Shavuot commemorates the day God gave the Torah to Moses at Mount Sinai.
Often chanted on this day, is a selection from the "Book of Ruth", as King David – whose passing occurred on this day – was a descendant of Ruth.

Today the cantorial selection was, “Whither thou goest…” I become so emotional, having seen in person our Maestro sing his own
tender and heartfelt performance of Guy Singer's song and watched and listened to it a zillion times. I cracked up weeping.

What a beautiful moment for you, Bridger... when the song began and continued to play.

Happy
Birthday from me, too, Stamatina 8) :D 8) !!!
My friends couldn't stop laughing at the dreamy look on my face while I sang "There's nothing pure enough / To be a cure for love".
No one does dreamy like a 14-year-old girl, either 8) .

It's heartening to have you here. My heartfelt welcome to you :D .

Hi Stamatina :D ~

Your being here is heartening to me because it's more evidence of the timelessness of Leonard's words. They last through the years and they reach both directions in people's ages. Seeing someone age 14 here is like seeing a blueprint of time with Leonard in it. In today's changing world, it assures that his songs will go on and on... you are the ones to whom we pass the torch of appreciation. It has nothing to do with me ;-) , it's only the effect upon me.
