No concerts in Canada. After Europe the tour continues and ends in USA only.

No concerts, but surely there is a good chance that he will head to Montreal for some rest.
Earlier this year he gave the most wonderful interview at his home in Montreal during the break between the European and American concerts (but after the Beacon): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ugh8Xe6hX7U

Avi,

You are right about the pull of Montreal

It is often said that one returns to Montreal to "renew one's neurosis" . The Dorman/Rawlings book quotes Leonard to the same effect. As an ex-Montrealer, I can tell you there is more soul on the sidewalks of Montreal .......if you grew up there, you always feel the excitement and the pulsating of the nightlife, the restaurants, the beautiful women, the street closing for open air parties, the aged architecture, and of course the food at Ben's deli where Leonard gave one of his early interviews. It the one that ends where he is in a bathub and writes "caveat emptar" on the wall, suggesting the "con " in everything. Alas Ben's is going to be replaced by a high-rise and Leonard will retire!

I too was hoping there would be one concert in Canada in the fall of 2009. I would have gone to any city.
I love the Canadian audiences at the Vancouver and Victoria performances.
At least all the US concerts aren't too far from Canada...

He really doesn't have much time between the end of the Summer European Tour and the Fall Tour in the USA for any kind of extended rest - I think less than a month.

But the tour will be over just as the holiday season is beginning.

And it should be nice and cold by then in Montreal.

Leonard, maybe you should organize a Montreal meetup next year? Nothing's better than a native tour guide...

Avi, it would be my utter and complete pleasure. Even though I left 40 years ago, I am still a Montrealer at heart.

And a visit while Leonard, the great Cohen (familiar!) is in Montreal could be over the top. Think of the possibilites !

Let's continue this walk

Hi Leonard,

Just to let you know that I would be on for that idea! Montreal is one of my most favorite cities even though it's been many years.

All the best,

I would love to come to Montreal too..haven't been since 1973...my father was born there in the same area that Leonard lived (in 1908 though). What a beautiful city!

Sounds like this is beginning of interest in a Montreal Event. Krakow is scheduled for 2010 but we can always put in a "bid" for 2011 or 2012. Lets see how the response goes!

BTW the Leonrd Cohen Files have a full section about the Event in 2000, with all the details and pictures. There is a photo of the group in front of Moyse Hall at McGill University, my alma mater. Should be nostalgic and fun!

I agree and perhaps we should start looking to the future! Besides Krakow, I think there is a gathering at Hydra in 2011 but I may be mistaken. However, the two do not need to coincide and we could have both in one year! Just don't make it during the winter...brrrr... Spring or Fall would be lovely....and perhaps Leonard could meet us in the square for a V8 :D

In '67 (Expo) I paid up front for a room which turned out to be a vacant lot in a very bad area of Montreal....however, the final result was interesting ;-) 8) Even though I messed up then, and don't know what I could do now, I'm willing to help! Just stay clear of tuba players from the German Beer Hall 8) 8) 8) 8)

Bon nuit,
Diana
