Mr. Acker Bilk's Stranger On The Shore was originally a hit in the U.K. and the USA in 1962. Just a point of information.

... the dates pertain to the live recordings featured in the videos ... which is the convention that I have used referencing previous song videos ... your point is well taken and I should note original recording date when there is a large disparity between it and a live version ...

Here's a song that I believe was released in 1962. It was considered to be the first hit of the British Invasion to America.

This thread is great. It's bringing back all sorts of memories. I got my first "record player" for Christmas in 1962 and the first two 45s I ever got were Telstar and this one!

Thanks, everyone. "Telstar" and "Stranger on the Shore" were two of the first singles I ever owned. My mother liked them, and bought them for me.

The first pop magazine I ever bought was "The Record Song Book" and had this guy on the cover:

Just to jump forward a little bit to 1989! I heard another song by this group on the radio the other day, and it reminded me of this one.
I thought it a great song when it came out.

I've been enjoying these old songs that have been posted.I remember my brother's The Shadows lp with Apache on it and I thought they were wonderful.There is nine years between my brother and twelve years between my sister and I,so I've grown up with quite a varied taste in music,and hearing these old songs again brings back some wonderful memories for me.Thank you.
