kwills - thanks for "Stay"...I can't remember hearing the original, before. It's much better than The Hollies or Jacksons Brown's versions. The Moodyblues "Go Now" is a classic. I think Bequia has also posted the Bessie Banks version in this thread.

Hi John, I'm glad you liked "Stay A Little Bit Longer".
I had an inkling after posting the Moody Blues link that someone had posted " Go Now"before.I shall double check next time.
Sorry about that.

The "Go Now" songwriters, Larry Banks and Milton Bennett, offered the Moody Blues a song to follow-up that hit; they passed on it and Kenny Carter did one of the great forgotten/missed gems of soul (song begins 1:14 into this clip - be patient; it's worth the wait!):

Showdown, Kenny Carter, 1966

...the original "Go Now" that John mentioned is this (done by the song co-writer's wife at the time):

Go Now, Bessie Banks, 1964
....all men will be sailors then....

Perhaps I am being a little self indulgent here but these are on my Youtube favourites:

On Creeque Alley in St. Thomas, where you might have once heard some visitors:

You Can't Judge A Book By The Cover, Mugwumps, 1964

you might now hear the sounds of a group from another of the US Virgin Islands, St, Croix:

Love The LIfe You Live, Midnite, 2001 (a look at the group here).

From Velvet Underground to The Velvet Fog doing an interesting choice of cover (song begins at 0:31):

Sunshine Superman, Mel Torme, 1969

Another indulgence from Luke Kelly:

Rocky Road To Dublin, Luke Kelly, 1976

and from the Waterboys:

Bring 'em All In/Every Breath Is Yours, The Waterboys, 2003 perfomance
....all men will be sailors then....

Marianne Faithfull released 'incarceration of a flower child' written by Roger Waters in 1968 and that has never been released but only many years ago (in 1999, on the 'vagagond ways' album) by Marianne Faithfull. She sang this song a lot on her concerts and told this. Guess she is proud of that. Roger Waters is a good friend of hers, and Waters' son Hall Waters was on the synthisizer during the 2004 tour. Indeed, a nice guy!

Here's a couple from the Strawbs - one with Sandy Denny.

There was one they did in their early days 'The Man Who Called Himself Jesus' - anyone remember that? I couldn't find a good copy of it.

Tony - you're allowed to be self-indulgent (certainly my posts are!). It was an inspired idea putting the Anna Marly track on here.

Mordy - thanks for Sandy and the Strawbs. I knew they'd sung together, but can't remember hearing them before. Good to hear "Benedictus" again.
