We thought we knew what we wanted.
Compelling connections to be
explored as swift as swallows fly;
sparks exploding into stars,
making pyres of our young bodies.
We knew what we thought we wanted.
Fearful of endings we tried
to live at the speed of light
& outran our selves.
Gathering up everything
to offer one another,
it all went into the fire.
We knew what we wanted.
& watching the whole thing burn,
rising like a plume
of light & smoke & mirror
high above the lights of the city,
we were grateful for the chance
to get it wrong.

Re: Windows
I like what I see in this, the part that I have picked out above particularly, as well as the final two lines ...
We knew what we thought we wanted.

to live at the speed of light
& outran our selves.
Gathering up everything
to offer one another,
it all went into the fire.
Thankswe were grateful for the chance to get it wrong.

Lovely thought, "lightedplace." I enjoyed the whole poem and idea.we were grateful for the chance
to get it wrong.
A good line for a grave-stone, too.
If Leonard wrote this I would rave on about some mystical context and suggest he was talking to his G~d and thanking Him for this opportunity at Life/existence.
