Cohen in South Africa

Post by judeinggs »

Why does Cohen go to tiny places like Wellington and skip South Africa completely? I was lucky enough to see him in 1980 but would really like to see him one more time. Anyone know if there's a chance he might make it here one day?

Yes, I go along with this. It's not just a country, but an entire continent that's missed from the tour. Early to mid January would be ideal (Maybe Kirstenbosch?). Come on Jarkko, can we have your support with this? (and perhaps the Irish members, who seem to be pretty good at lobbying!)

ps. SA, you hosted a great world cup! :D

Working from memory here but weren't there plans for Leonard to tour South Africa in 2010? As I recall, the tour was due to start in Europe then move down to SA. However, these plans got shelved when Leonard injured his back in January and the whole tour had to be postponed by several months. Dates planned for March were re-arranged for September and October and my guess would be that most of the European dates in July / August and the Australasia tour had already been pencilled in before the postponement, leaving no space for the SA tour. There has also been the small matter of some football tournament or other in SA to work round.

But if dates were planned for 2010 then I would have thought that SA would be a strong bet for 2011. As Jarkko always says, we must be patient ....

After the cancellation of the Spring 2010 tour (because of Leonard's back injury), South Africa has not been in the plans.

South America and Africa

What about Leonard Cohens thousands of fans in South Africa and South America. I can imagine that in South Africa alone he can have 8 to 10 sell out concerts and then in South America at least in Buenos Aires, Cordoba, Montevideo, Santiago, Sao Paolo, Rio, Porto Alegro, etc. Come on Leonoard we are dedicated fans for over 4 decades!!!

Is there any chance of seeing Leonard Cohen in South Africa again?

The Tour 2008-2010 will end on December 11 in USA. We have the final tour itinerary (we don't expect more concerts to be announced), and there are no plans for 2011. Next Leonard will concentrate on his new album.
