Phnom Penh Concert Statement

Post by the mekong sessions »

The Mekong Sessions – Friday 12 November 2010.

The Mekong Sessions wishes to again apologise to all fans and supporters for the postponement of the scheduled concert in Phnom Penh on 27 November 2010.

In the first instance, the Mekong Sessions conveys our utmost appreciation and respect to master songwriter Leonard Cohen and his band and sincerely wish them the very best for the remaining concerts on the 2010 World Tour.

All ticket holders who purchased tickets from the Mekong Sessions are now being refunded in full. The Mekong Sessions will not be entering into further debate over the reasons for this disappointment on online discussion forums.

Our sincere thanks go to all our steadfast supporters in Phnom Penh and around the world, most especially Jarkko Arjatsalo, Marie Mazur and Linda Lee Sturgess.

Thank You.

"postponement"? Let's be honest. "Cancellation" would be the more appropriate word here.

After all, if ticket sales were slow the first time round, do you really think you are going to be able to sell tickets a second time round?

If somehow Mr. Cohen does make it to Phnom Penh, I will be as surprised as I was disappointed to have the show cancelled.

My only comment as an observer who did not suffer any loss is there would appear to be some contradictions between this statement and the one posted on behalf of Robert Kory on the other thread.

I was not aware that this was a 'postonement' and that there was a definate commitment to return to PP at a later date which is certainly what the staement implies.

This topic has gone quiet now, probably because those who have gone to "financial and geographical inconvenience" ( as recognised by Leonard on "Live in London") with nothing to show for it, have "voted with their fingers", and left the forum. Who could blame them?

The only sadness is that nobody has really taken the promoters to task. They are the ones who set the prices, organise the venue for the concert, produce the advertising and then normally make shed loads of cash. If these promoters are so inefficient ( I could have said useless ) why hasn't anybody questioned them directly in this Forum. A bland statement from them is hardly suitable to answer their critics. Amateurs like this should not be encouraged by the "mega stars" of AEG or indeed Leonard's own management. Again as I have stated before, the real losers are those fans who will be unable to watch a band without equal. Is anyone seriously thinking that Mekong Sessions will ever be contemplated as a serious contender for another L.C. concert regardless of what they might like to think!

I have been led to believe that the Management and Promoters believe this has been well handled to date - but was a full statement not promissed?

I am one of the lucky ones - Victoria and Vancouver impending so I must try and get some sleep tonight so I can enjoy tomorrow
