Old Soviet Plagiarism
Old Soviet Plagiarism
Many years ago (about 20) in USSR popular singer Sofia Rotaru sang song written by composer Vladimir Matezki which named "Gornaya Lavanda"("Mountain Lavender"). Mrs. Rotaru perform this song now too. You can listen MIDI version of this song here http://www.karaoke.ru/getsong.php?getsong=1042
File isn't big, about 50 kBt. But you must be ready to listen "Dance Me To The End Of Love" from first note. What's your impression?

Well, I thought, AHA! THIS I can DO ~ I'm at work
! However, all I got was a blank screen with the leonard cohen topic 'link' verbiage at the top, followed by a line-and-a-half of Russian, and no indicators were moving, showing there was still more to come
. I hope someone confirms what I was hoping to.

No chance of it being the other way around?
20 yrs ago is exactly when Various Positions was released. Depends on how old the Russian song is or when it was composed by Mr. Matezki who I presume wrote the music.
Anyway, I don't consider it plagiarism either way when it comes to music.
Most of the basic melodies come from a long time ago passed through generations and peoples and modified. Lot of Dylan tunes can be traced back to Scottish and Irish folk melodies.

Ha, Lavaaan-da-a...
In fact, I can confirm, it's really considered to be plagiarism here. I even heard (or read
) a story of its composing. Matezky visited Makarevich (one of our "rockers") who had LC' album. He listened to the Dance Me... there and then decided to use this song in his own work. Since it was a time of "iron curton" he was sure anything written by him will never go abroad
... Such a story... Maybe Makarevich told it, maybe not... Don't remember. But it may be nothing more than an anekdote, of course.

Well - try to use:lizzytysh wrote:Oh, no! It STILL won't work ~ I get the identical results
! Maybe these industrial-strength ITs [techs] have geared our computers away from such accessing, in the interest of protection from viruses!?! I can still pull up other sound links, though
Well, it would be nice if she would credit her influence, anyway, right? I would so love to hear it for myself
! Thanks for your efforts, Jarkko ~ at least they'll help others

Ahhhhhhh, thank you, Mirek
. It barely started its buffering process before it burst into my headphones, full instrumentation
. Meanwhile, Sofia certainly is beautiful, isn't she? And, yes, Helven, Matezky seems to have listened and listened well on that fateful day at his friend's house, the one with excellent taste
. Ahhh, it's a great song for Russia to have on its radiowaves.

The funny thing is the fact that, perhaps, thanks to this Lavender Dance Me... became very popular here some years later. So far as I remember it was the only LC' song which they repeatedly put on the air at our FM-stations. Don't remember I heard anything else there, but this one sounded veeery often. Yeah, it must be Karma, just Karma
.

I'm glad that this topic generate interest to you. In fact this song was performed in duet Mrs. Rotaru and Latvian singer Yaak Yoalla. Some years ago there was another duet in one TV show and they sang "Dance Me..." in the same decorations which was used when Mrs. Rotaru was performe "Lavanda". It was very ridiculous. Show was named something like "Old songs about main" and there were present-day russian artist sang old soviet songs.
Just now I was try to find this song - and nothing. My only result here http://3mp3.ru/ru/song/242467/Dance-me- ... tovarischi. I never listen this version. I only know that this is a hard rock group and nothing more.

Well, Mirek, any ideas? I just went and simply got the standard, "This page cannot be displayed" page with all the other info that's always on it. Not that I'm necessarily missing anything
