Mary Margaret O'Hara new CD - It's OK to touch my face (?)

Post by hookrkrook »

Hi all,

I'm new around here, so apologies if this is somewhat off-topic, or in the wrong forum. At the Dublin Came so far for Beauty show, there were CDs on the merchandise stand by Mary Maragaret O'Hara. I think the CD was entitled It's OK to touch my face. Looked like it might have been a small production lot, or even a homemade job. It was only 12 euro, but neither my wife nor I had any money on us that night (don't ask !!! ) and I have been searching online for the CD since, but have been unable to find mention of it anywhere. Would anybody there that night have to have bought a copy they would be willing to trade?? Desperate to hear some new MMOH music. Thought she was fantastic that night, btw.
Many thanks in advance.

There seems to be a soundtrack album (all songs done by MMOH):

Thanks for the reply Jarkko. I was aware of this soundtrack, but the one on sale at the show was definitely a different CD to the soundtrack CD. I'll keep an eye out for the CD. Anyway have the soundtrack to Apartment Hunting? Is it any good?

thanks,
Joseph

Welcome to the forum Joseph

Anne Mitchell, just Anne here on the forum, from toronto, is a friend of MMOH -- am sure she can put you onto more music. Know that Willner has also used her in his Sea Shanties and Harry Smith projects.

Hope that helps

Sorry I gave you the wrong impression, Dick, I have met Mary Margaret before, but I wouldn't call her my friend. I have seen her at a few clubs in Toronto and I have spoken to her several times, but I am sure she wouldn't even remember me.
Joesph, I thought her performance was great in Dublin, particularly, Hallelujah, but sadly I didn't get the album you are looking for either. I live in Toronto, where MMOH does, too, so I will look for the album at some downtown independent stores.

Thanks Anne. I too thought Hallelujah was amazing - completely different to some of the other versions we're more familiar. Does MMOH play much live in Toronto these days? Let me know if you come across her album anywhere.

cheers....

Her Dublin rendition of Hallelujah is at youtube (only in audio)

The worst version of Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah, ever. As sung by Gavin Friday and Mary Margaret O'Hara at the Came So Far For Beauty Concert in the Point Depot, Dublin, 5 October 2006

7. Mary Margaret O’Hara, It’s OK To Touch My Fancy
The big track: Have You Gone
Hg’s choice: This Is What I Want
This is an eleven-track, no-label CD that she was selling at the Came So Far For Beauty show in Dublin. It contains seven previously released tracks from the Apartment Hunting soundtrack and four that I’ve not come across before: The One Rose (very Patsy Cline), Strangel (distant sounding, twangy Americana), Serious Maybe (delicate warbling) and Dark Dear Heart (a beautiful, measured ballad). There was also a two-track bonus disc containing totally new material: This Is What I Want (sublime, maybe my favourite song of the year) and The Gift Of The Magi (a spoken word piece).
