Hi,

How many years have you been listening to Leonard Cohen's music?

Forty three, as of this Christmas. I bought "The Rock Machine Turns You On " CBS sampler, heard "Sisters of Mercy", and I'd found my world! I bought "Songs From a Room" on its release early in 1969, and followed it promptly with "Songs of Leonard Cohen".

I remember my parents used to play the older songs in their gallery until someone came in and complained that the music was depressing, and they used to play Leonard around the house. My mom forced Leonard on me when I was around 11, and shortly after gave me her copy of Beautiful Losers to read, and I developed my own particularly deep interest (cough, obsession) a couple years later. I'd say 17 years willfully.

umm...about two and a half, I guess...
"Oh chosen love, Oh frozen love
Oh tangle of matter and ghost
Oh darling of angels, demons and saints
And the whole broken-hearted host
Gentle this soul..."

It was Sisters of Mercy for me too but I'd say it was out a few years by the time I first heard it !!

Same here, John. I used to love Rock Machine. It seems to have got lost somewhere over the years - or maybe someone borrowed it. Who else was on it? I've forgotten.

Close to 40 years.

For ever. I can't think of a time when he wasn't part of my adult life. I came relatively late to non-classical music, and along with The Doors, and Joni Mitchell and Judy Collins, Leonard was one of the singers/groups that opened my eyes to the reality that it wasn't all "bubble-gum" music. I heard tracks from "Songs of Leonard Cohen" way back, probably in around '68 or whenever it first came out, and that was it. First saw him at the Isle of Wight in 1970.

So let's just say, 43 years and hope I'm not too far wrong
All the best

23 years. It all started with I'm Your Man, and now I cannot imagine my life without Leonard's voice and songs. I have never been so deeply affected by any other artist. Leonard Cohen is my shining light, bringing joy and enrichment to my world beyond my wildest imagination. His music will always be with me.

1969 or 1970 was about the first time, so over 40 years. I had already read his first book by then.
I hope to be listening for a good many more years to come.
