How Long Did It Take You To Open The CD?

Post by jerry »

It literally took me 20 minutes to get the top seal off the cd. Why do cds need to be sealed as if they were radioactive? I go to the store and I see rat posion on the shelf. It's not sealed at all. I understand having shrinkwrap on the cd but that seal over the top edge must be made with glue from another galaxy!

Gwen & Ann: CDs in the US have an extra tough, inpenetrable seal at the top of the CD under the shrink wrap. Theoretically it serves a dual purpose: keeps the CD closed so the naughty people can't pry the jewel case open a smidge to shake the CD out and it also gives the title and bar code as well - useful for stock checking etc.

I'm with you on this Jerry. These seals were invented by the devil himself. Even if you do manage to get them off you have evil bits of sticky left all over the top edge of the case to taunt you for ever more.

As an aside, am I the only one who was expecting the new CD to be a digipack?

Wendy - I was expecting the CD to be in a digipack, but was very glad it wasn't. Those American CD seals at the top are the worst, and you have to be ultra careful if you use a Stanley knife!

We didn't have THAT seal to contend with. I hate them and have broken many a nail getting them off :!:

Mine from Amazon did not have any seal, it was just ready to open and play, so a nano second.

Yeah, there is sticky residue along the top of both sides of the CD case where the sticker was. That doesn't usually happen, and with the dust in my apartment, that case is going to become quite gross. But that is my only complaint about this CD, of course. (Though I really do want him to get back in the studio immediately and record "Feels So Good" and "Born In Chains.")
