JB & BS - You’re a friend of mine

Post by B4real »

I’ve been meaning to do this for a while now. Here are a few reminders to a great friendship that has continued to endure for approx forty years now.
They have shared their music and their beliefs to each other and the world and we have all benefited from it in more ways than one.
Both have gone out of their way to help make the world a better place.

Thanks B4. I checked out some of the links and will look at the others later on. I am not very familiar with JB's music - at first I thought it was Joan Baez and was wondering who BS could be other than Springsteen. Did not know CC could sing like that.

Ah Kush,

I should have made it clearer in the title who they were but I would have exceeded the letter limit I think.

A little snippet about Bruce’s and Jackson’s friendship in the early 1970’s was this friendly dig at Bruce and the band:
Jackson Browne and David Lindley (whose violin playing I absolutely love) did a very good radio broadcast at The Main Point, Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania in 1975. Jackson sang a Warren Zevon song “Werewolves Of London”. I can’t give you a link because it is a bootleg recording but halfway through the song he sang this made-up line.

“ Seen Bruce Springsteen walking all by himself and he was looking like the werewolves of London, ah ooh! ooh! werewolves of London, E-Street shuffle....”

Some of Bruce’s words about Jackson’s music:
“I think that what drew women to Jackson, besides the obvious, was that they finally felt they were listening to a guy who knew as much about love as they did. And what drew men to Jackson, besides the obvious, I guess, was that when they listened to him, they realized they knew more about love than they thought they did.”

....and on that note I am now forced to start a new thread on Jackson Browne and his music because I did a search and found that unbelievably no one has done this before!

Thanks Bev for the intro to Jackson Browne's music. Will check out the links.
I highlighted the above line because I remember one time I did a search and found that unbelievably no one had started a thread on John Denver who I think is an absolute legend. Someday I will start a thread on JD.

Excellent idea Kush! He has a wonderful voice! I prefer his ballards to his country ho-down ones.

Here's another (not so good quality) video with Bruce and Jackson and Bonnie Raitt singing Highway 61
.....and part of another song at the end I think I prefer but at this stage can't quite make out what it is -

Jackson Browne, Bruce Springsteen and friends are always willing to hold up their hands to support various charitable organizations. Here are a few videos showing their friendship through a shared humanitarian commitment.

I'll start with the answer to the few lines that were at the end of the previously posted video just above of Highway 61 and I couldn’t recognize at the time. Mystery solved:

Across The Borderline

Jackson Browne, Bruce Springsteen and Bonnie Raitt with these same two songs to help benefit social justice:

Highway 61

…and at the same benefit concert Bruce by himself with an informative intro about his old house and a great version of this song:

My Father’s House

....also I’ve snuck in this one of Jackson Browne and Jennifer Warnes with this song to help children with aids:
