why you shouldn't read or listen to L. Cohen
why you shouldn't read or listen to L. Cohen
Hi all!
Let's put the cat among the pigeons! I don't know if this question has already been raised here, but - as most of the people on the forum love lists - let us make a list of reasons why you shoudn't read or listen to L. Cohen - what comes to mind? what are the reasons that critics have mentioned over time, do you agree (why / not?) and could you find other ones?
...let the listing begin!...

okay, let me see... some conjectures:
It might corrupt young minds.
It might make someone a pervert.
It might turn heretofore happy people depressed.
It might lead to suicide.
It might turn the chaste to promiscuity.
These might be some cliche'd reasons that a 'critic' might give.
Absurd all of them, but since when has that stopped a 'critic'

I add some other classical statements:
- He can't sing
- He's always saying the same thing
- His work is too hermetic (you don't know what he's singing about)
- His work makes one depressive

Oh.... somehow, I missed your intent. When you said "shouldn't," I took it as meaning ill-advised, like the cautionary warnings regarding potential damage to oneself, like the smoker warnings on the backs of packs, advising may be injurious to one's health, except now they've taken it up to WILL BE. Had I taken the position of how you actually meant it, more as in "don't bother," I would have gone the direction you had. Ah well... a good sign that I need some coffee this morning

You shouldn't listen to LC because
-no other singer will ever live up.
-no other voice will be touch you as much ever again.

-no other voice will be touch you as much ever again.

Because he will teach you what longing is,
and you will never feel satisfied (or want
to feel satisfied) ever again.
