.....and Mary that Black & White DVD sounds good - I haven't heard it before that I can remember - certainly requires further investigation.

Cohen’s biographer wrote of Roy’s immense influence on Cohen, saying, “In rehearsal Cohen would tell the band to ‘make it like Roy Orbison would do it.’ The musicians had a picture of Orbison pasted into their chart folder.”

Yes, I was listening to the Wilburys the other day and ended up on Amazon buying vols 1 and 2, and, as an added extra, the Very Best of Roy Orbison. My original 45s have got lost somewhere, and it was good to hear his wonderful voice again. Thanks for starting this thread, Tony - good to know Mr O is not forgotten.

Springsteen namechecks Orbison in his hit “Thunder Road”. The vocal sound of which was inspired by Roy and he pays homage to him with the line:
“Like a vision she dances across the porch / As the radio plays Roy Orbison singing for the lonely / Hey that’s me and I want you only.”
....a reference to Orbison's 1960 hit, "Only The Lonely."

Springsteen also reverently inducted Orbison into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987 and can be spotted in the Grammy-nominated videotaped concert "Roy Orbison and Friends: A Black and White Night".

"In 1970, I rode for fifteen hours in the back of a U-haul truck to open for Roy Orbison at the Nashville Music Fair. In 1974, just prior to going into the studio to record my album Born To Run, I was looking at Duane Eddy for his guitar sound and I was listening to a collection of Phil Spector's records and Orbison's All-Time Greatest Hits. Well, today I stumbled across more of these clips and Mary, you are so right! Talk about a star studded line up! It's excellent.

A Black & White Night, the live album, was compiled and released posthumously from the television special. The album was released in February 1989 and included the songs "Blue Bayou" and "Claudette" that were cut from the original broadcast for time. However it did not include the song "Blue Angel" which was cut from the original broadcast for the same reason.
