Elvis Presley will be 'virtually resurrected' by the company who brought rapper Tupac 'back to life'.
A hologram of Elvis Presley, who died in 1977, will be created by Digital Domain Media Group (DDMG), which brought Tupac 'back to life' for a recent music festival performance.
The production company has announced a deal with Elvis Presley Enterprises (EPE) which will see it create multiple virtual Elvis likenesses for live shows, television appearances and distribution on the internet.
'This is a new and exciting way to bring the magic and music of Elvis Presley to life,' EPE's president and chief executive, Jack Soden, said.
'His lifelong fans will be thrilled all over again and new audiences will discover the electric experience of Elvis the performer.'
Mr Soden says he is confident the project 'will help continue the growth of Elvis' rich legacy all over the world'.
The singer, who shot to fame with Blue Suede Shoes in 1954, has sold more than a billion albums since.
The head of DDMG, John Textor, described him as 'the most recognised performer on the planet'.
We are thrilled to have been chosen to bring new performances and original shows where fans can have their own, new experiences of Elvis,' he said.
The US-based company, which has won an Academy Award for its creation of computer-generated humans, stunned a crowd of almost 90,000 at the Coachella Festival in California with its lifelike Tupac hologram. The hip hop star, who died in 1996, was 'resurrected' during the set of Snoop Dogg, who performed a duet with the 3D likeness.
