Glad to see you have done it Kush :)

Great songs and a wonderful voice! I found 'Yellowstone Coming Home' quite poignant....

Hi,

Good to see this John Denver thread. Some of my fondest John Denver related memories center around a
high school teacher who set slides that he took of a trip to the Rocky Mountains to John Denver music.
He manually ran through slides that were projected onto a screen, while playing (probably tapes)
Denver's music. Students were invited to attend this primitive audio-visual presentation. A naturalist
recently expressed to me his concern that people are getting increasingly disconnected from the natural
world because, among other things, they are increasingly plugged in to technology. Listening to Denver's
music linked to here is a reminder of what's out there and perhaps a prompt to some to get out there and
enjoy.

Hi

Glad y'all enjoyed the songs. Sturgess thanks for bringing that little gem Boy from the country - a song I'd never heard. B4Real - I was actually listening to the Wildlife Concert the other day and remembered the earlier reference to JD but had forgotten the context.
Steven - I started listening to John Denver in high school , less so in recent years. Quite apart from the songwriting aspect I like his full clear voice. No holding back on the notes.

Another great song from the wildlife concert

I love John Denver so it is great to see a topic here about him. While flying back from Las Vegas (I arrived when it was dark ;-) ) I made sure to be on the side of the plane where I could see the Rocky Mountains as they feature in so many of his songs and I was humming this as we flew over.

However my favourite JD song has to be this:

Thank you everyone for all your links! They were great 8)

But I just have to mention here that John Denver has made three Australian albums. The first two have included the same songs as Kush first posted. The third one was recorded live in Australia in November 1994.

The Flower That Shattered The Stone - Eagles And Horses
Live At The Sydney Opera - The Eagle And The Hawk
Sing Australia - Sing Australia

..and of course I had to post the title song in keeping with the wildlife theme -
Sing Australia - an excellent video and song about Australia

Nice tracks musicmania and B4real.

Here is a couple more great songs - Wild Montana Skies which has a ridiculously catchy melody and the rather pointed Raven's Child. I think finding a catchy rhythm and melody is like striking oil - you know people are gonna sing to it forever ! Badlands (Springsteen) is another.

Raven's Child

I have to say things do indeed move in circles. I started Kush off with Jackson Browne on my JB & BS thread where he mentioned maybe posting this thread on John Denver. And now he (and everyone else here) has reminded me again what a great singer and human being John Denver was. In fact, both JB and JD have beautiful clear voices and both are noted for the way they care about the planet and all the people in it. Wonderful humanitarians!

Also, because of this thread I have recently compiled a four disc set of seventy songs for my mother who loves JD and in the process I have discovered and re-discovered some great songs. Keeping sort of to the wildlife theme, here are a few of them.

Windsong

Singing Skies And Dancing Waters
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SnTEbGyZdO4

The Wings That Fly Us Home
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=04AXP5TgYxE

This song is not of the same flavour as the others but a great story song from his very first album.
My Old Man

...Diane, I love Annie's song too - I've just learnt it on the violin :D

Thanks for the songs B4real. There are a number of songs on this thread that I'd never heard before. Yes, with the new technology (internet downloading) we can make our own personal collections and I have done it for a number of artists but not JD yet.

Hi Kush,

It's a good thing to find that the sentiment of the song matches the way one feels about his/her own
geographical base, West Virginia, West Jamaica... :D

Hi Steven,

JDs themes and sensibilities are universal I would think. And that is true for country music in general. West Jamaica has a nice ring to it :)
