Wendy,

You are so right. I couldn't agree more. For all of those who can't stop nagging about Dino please pick up the pieces and start all over again on this site: http://i-flintstones.tripod.com/trivia.htm

Why ???
Isn't this a public Leonard Cohen Forum ?
IMHO Mr. Cohen is very much interested in his longtime fans opinion about his music.

I wish Dino all the best in his next venture.
Agreed. Not that I didn't appreciate Dino, but it's time to move on.

Leonard Cohen...........mediocrity?

An oxymoron if ever there was!
I guess it all started for me sometime around Christmas 1967 and now, goodness me, it's.........2018 and over fifty years later.
No one ever listens to me. I might as well be a Leonard Cohen record.

So you're not Leonard Cohen fans then?

I had hoped this thread would have died a death by now but, clearly, some people are not prepared to move on.

Clearly, I am a glass-half-full person, because when I saw the line up I was delighted that so many of the old band are touring again. Leonard could have changed the whole damn lot if he had wanted to. And (I believe) we have a violin now, something I and others thought was missing from the previous tour. Familiar songs (mostly) but with a different texture. Sounds exciting.

wow...
I don't think Leonard Cohen needs and expects to be worshipped for everything he does on stage.
I think he appreciates honest and friendly opinions of his longtime fans, this is why he started the 2008 tour in small Canadian theaters.
Dino's presence was the right touch of free spirited performance on all too perfect storytelling coming from Mr. Cohen.
The concerts audience age spectrum is from teenagers to people well into mature years, each age group responds best to different music genre. Previous band provided something for everybody, the current one is too polished, IMHO.

Mirka my comment had nothing to do with "worship" of Leonard. it had everything to do with someone suggesting that Leonard's shows had gone from "magic to mediocre" simply because of a change in band personnel. The only possible explanation that I could think of is that they were Dino fans rather than Leonard Cohen fans. Someone might prefer Dino's "instruments of wind" to Alex's violin - that's there prerogative and everyone is entitled to their own opinion - but it is clearly nonsense to say that Leonard's show is changed from "magic to mediocre" simply because Dino is no longer present unless Dino was the only reason you went to the shows in the first place.

For goodness sake, why can't we just respect Leonard's decision on the sound he wants to create and move on before this "debate" gets any sillier?

The reason Leonard started the 2008 tour in small theatres in the Maritimes was that he hadn't toured for 15 years, he wasn't sure anyone would want to see him perform and he wasn't sure the tour would work. It was fascinating to watch Leonard gain his confidence during that first week as he realised that yes, people did want to see him and yes, it was going to work!

Wendy, if you read our post carefully, we never said that Leonard´s concert has changed from magic to mediocre. We said we profoundly wish that this will not happen. Our sentence was reaction to all the posts saying that Dino´s time is over and that we have to move on. We love to move on, if the direction is fine. From 2008 to 2010 we were lucky to attend a series of wonderful Leonard Cohen concerts with the most perfect band line-up we ever saw on a stage. Each night had the magic touch, of course because of Leonard, but also because of the absolute perfect and tender backing of the UHTC, including Dino and Bob Metzger. Sad to say we did not have the same feelings in Ghent. No doubt that Alex is a virtuous violin player, and you can call us inflexible, but we missed Dino. It´s not a matter of being a "Dino fan". It´s a matter of appreciating Dino´s merits for the last tour, and remembering his energy, his humour and his most sensitive manner accompanying Leonard and giving his songs a perfect note.

Had gone, could go ... whatever. My point was: how and why could you ever think that the shows could go from "magic to mediocre" simply because Dino is not there. Leonard still is ...

My final word on the subject.
