so, on what basis am I a "fawning fan"? You know absolutely nothing about me.... I was really hinting at your pomposity in setting yourself up as an "aficionado".... I actually quite like Judy Collins, and I'm well aware of her place in the story.... I don't feel wildly bothered about her getting a mention in this thread, but it's hard to ignore the tone of superiority you choose to adopt when someone (obviously a lesser being) has the temerity to disagree with you....

Sad really, as personally I never hinted nor mentioned I was an aficianado but I just felt you were belittling the very person that we should remember brought LC to us all and as James T states, what is your problem of mentioning someone else being in Dublin? Judy Collins, to me has every right to be mentioned on this thread, why you disagree with that is quite beyond me to be honest. Surely if anyone should be allowed to share a thread under his name, then she is right in the forefront. As for knowing nothing about you, that is true of course but I have noticed that whenever the words Leonard Cohen and Dublin (or Ireland) then you appear to act like a headless chicken in your joy. Perhaps you are just a little over excited rather than a fawning fan, for which I apologise.

I'm sure that others reading this thread will find it a little tiresome that it's been hi-jacked by this spat.... but I'm sorry that you seem to be unable to advance an argument without resorting to personal abuse (mild, admittedly) - I'm not a fawning fan, I'm not over excited, not a headless chicken.... just as most others on here (otherwise they wouldn't be here) I'm delighted Leonard is returning to my part of the world.... as I stated, I'm actually not overly bothered that Judy Collins got a mention.... my response was to the way you rounded on someone who (gently) expressed an opinion different to yours... but then, I've seen you do that before... as for the Aficionado stuff... you raised that to indicate that I didn't understand, but that Aficonado's do - I think it's clear that you were putting yourself in that group. I know nothing about you Vicomte, apart from what you write on here, so I'm not going to make assumptions about you; perhaps you could do the same for me....? I disagree with some of what you write, and I'm happy to say so... I have no problem with you disagreeing with me, but could you maybe avoid the personal stuff?

Seems to me you obviously were overly bothered that Judy Collins was mentioned , or why bother to even get involved because the above was certainly not a good reason. I gave a point as to why she should have been mentioned as to being in Dublin and that stands. You say you have read my posts, that being the case, you will see I do not believe myself to be anything of the sort concerning an aficianado, even going so far as to say that new fans are as welcome as anyone and probably some of them know a lot more than I about the man.

Vicomte - Good to see you standing your ground, here! I'm glad that cohenadmirer brought attention to Judy's concerts as she still has the near-perfect soprano, and is well-worth seeing . Meanwhile, in response to athnuachan's post (second in this thread), the artist that he calls Judy's "accompanying pianist and rather lame comedian support" is presumably Kenny White - a fine pianist/singer-songwriter who has written some excellent satirical songs. His album "Comfort in the Static" (2010) is one of the best albums of the past decade. I would say that the reason why Judy Collins tickets still cost so little is because she has stayed true to her Sixties ideals, and hasn't been hijacked by the world of corporate consumerism!

Is there an "I think ", "in my opinion", or even a (much-favoured-on-the-forum) IMHO missing there?

I would not claim that "Shakespeare is the greatest writer who ever lived", because no doubt someone somewhere would disagree.
However, I am happy to say " I think Shakespeare is the greatest writer who ever lived". That is my opinion. Opinions differ.

My two companions and I in the half-filled NCH found Judy Collins's support act tedious. So did one of the two people sitting next to us. The other said: "Well, he wasn't too bad".

We all welcomed the arrival of Judy Collins on stage for the second half of the concert.
Was I glad I went ? Yes, to hear and see Judy Collins.
Would I go again? No - not for just an hour and a half of the person we wanted to hear.
