Was really astonished watching this to find that Pokey wasn't more well known in the USA. Letterman seems genuinely surprised at this 'new' band.
Have seen Pokey (and The South City Three) many times in Scotland. Huge fan base in the UK. They are lovely bunch of guys. They spend a great deal of time talking to fans before and after their shows. The energy they put into each performance is immense!
If you haven't heard (of) them, try this for size.:

Re: Pokey LaFarge
My wife and youngest two sons saw them play in a pub in Chichester, West Sussex UK nearly two years ago. They had a brilliant night. They have followed their progress ever since.Vicomtesse was mighty impressed when they spoke with the band at the end of the gig, especially when Pokey repeatedly called her "Ma'am" in any answers to her questions !
I guess it all started for me sometime around Christmas 1967 and now, goodness me, it's.........2018 and over fifty years later.
No one ever listens to me. I might as well be a Leonard Cohen record.

Re: Pokey LaFarge
This has been my experience as well Vicomte. Took my son( budding musician) along a couple of years ago, and they couldn't have been more engaging. Seen them several times since, and they've never disappointed. Had a great set on Jools' Hootenanny 2011.Vicomte wrote:My wife and youngest two sons saw them play in a pub in Chichester, West Sussex UK nearly two years ago. They had a brilliant night. Re: Pokey LaFarge
Yes Robert, we saw them on Jools Hootenanny (2011). Our second son is also a "budding" musician and he spent time talking to Pokey and the others and they could not have been more helpful or courteous. We have no idea when they will be back that way and I doubt we'll ever get to see them in our part of France (even Paris would be great)
Vicomtesse tells me she put something about them a while back. Here it is:

Re: Pokey LaFarge
I'd never heard of them before either, but that was great. Like their dress sense, too.
Re: Pokey LaFarge
Sweet. Letterman has a really great collection of music, off the beaten track.

Re: Pokey LaFarge
Thanks for that, Zimmy, just checked out the dates, a few we can't manage but Rouen looks a possibility, perhaps Paris and after looking through the tour, they are in Brighton the day after Leonard. It is in Concorde2, a night club, we will have to look in to the venue.
If we go, I'll mention to Pokey that there are people in Scotland who are damned upset by your non presence. he is that polite I wouldn't be surprised if they caught the train and went straight there
