As the sad news went public today (and I have no words) we maybe all could change our Facebook profile photo to be a unified heart in all those different versions we have it.
And I hope that he is somewhere, where he can see, that he created a community, that we can do something together be there for each other.
If you find the idea bad, that's ok, then leave it.
Just no harsh comments please.

Re: Unified Heart as a symbol of grief and respect
The Unified Heart symbol appeared on the stair in The Auld Dubliner alongside the words "live music" a little over a week ago.
Dublin loved Leonard and Leonard Loved Dublin.
He said:
It's a great Honor to be in this great city of poets and writers,
It's been fifteen years since I was last on stage, I was 60 years old then,
Just a kid with a crazy dream......
and at the closing of the concert he said :
He referred to our voting on the Lisbon treaty laughingly and said
"Ireland continues to bewilder the world "
and his last words before he left the stage
"At the risk of offending any atheists, God bless ye ! "

Lovely idea, Amrei. I have been thinking of getting a tattoo of the hearts, like so many other Cohenites have, I think now I am ready to take the plunge. It is a hopeful symbol in these dark times...

Re: Unified Heart as a symbol of grief and respect
I created this image this morning, shortly after hearing the awful news. I am posting it here at the request of Amrei, and also at her request I am giving permission for anyone who wishes to use it. Not that I feel I need to give permission, for what I feel is Leonard's symbol.

Please do, you won't regret it! I am one of those with a unified hearts tattoo: I love it and all that it represents, and I shall wear it proudly, forever. It is a beautiful reminder of all that Leonard Cohen brought to my life and to the world through his songs and poetry. As you say, it is such a hopeful symbol, and I would add, one of unity, not division, and we need more of the former, so that we don't forget what we, as human beings, have in common, and why love and respect is so important for us to flourish. Leonard's art -- like all great art -- touches people across generations, from all nations, all backgrounds, all beliefs, all walks of life, tapping into the essential humanity and emotions that we all share. The unified hearts symbol expresses all of that so elegantly and simply, and so anybody who wishes to display it, on their skin, on Facebook, wherever, ought to do so, in reverence, grief, understanding, solidarity, etc..somewhat_nifty wrote:...I have been thinking of getting a tattoo of the hearts, like so many other Cohenites have, I think now I am ready to take the plunge.
