From Elisapie’s Inuktitut (2023) Album which was a nominee for the 2025 JUNO Album of the Year award. The album features Inukitut language covers of various classic songs that Elisapie described as having significant personal memory related to. She viewed this project as an opportunity for building bridges between Inuit and non-inuit cultures.
This song in particular is a cover of the famous (and my personal favourite) Leonard Cohen Song Hey, That’s No Way to Say Goodbye (1967).

Elisapie talked about the importance of radio to her small Inuk community in northern Québec, and to Indigenous people in general. When she said, “I don’t like Leonard Cohen,” the audience gasped—until she explained that “like” doesn’t cover it; she loves him so much it’s impossible to explain. She was actually invited to sing with him once but said, “I don’t want to sing with Leonard Cohen, I want to make him tea.” His manager told her that Cohen regretted never touring the North, so now she sings an Inuk version of “Hey, That’s No Way to Say Goodbye,” as she did during the workshop. “So, now he gets to travel there,” she said.
