Laurie: it was me, probably. I agree about Consider the Birds, I am more fond of previous two albums, with that crazy upbeat vibrating country sound, whatever it is. Consider the Birds starts like that with first track, and then it dissapears in melodies in which there's no rhythm pattern I can't rely on. I like Wovenhand, and Blush Music also. It sounds like Final Judgement when I listen to those stuff. It is religious feeling, but I am not against it as long it works for me, like first two albums do.

"Woven Hand" is David Eugene Edwards, frontman singer of "16horsepower". He sounds like Johnny Cash on drive. He describes his music as "amalgam" (his word) of Johnny Cash's Love-Murder-God trilogy, Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen. I'd add Tom Waits to that comparation.
CDs:
Woven Hand: Woven Hand, 2002

Woven Hand: Blush Music, 2003

Woven Hand: Blush, the original score, 2003

Wovenhand: Consider the Birds, 2004

Woven Hand already contained songs originally written for a theatre (was it ballet?). Blush Music contains mostly the same songs as first album, but in theatre and reworked versions (!). Nevertheless, it's great album, as the first one; they actually comes as duet to me. Third CD (I don't have it) is limited availability - it's the actual, integral theatre music for that dance play. I think it was mail-order only thru Glitterhouse label in Germany (I remember I got the announcement in mailbox.)
So, Consider the birds is actually his second album under the name of Wovenhand. (And he credited it as Wovenhand, not Woven Hand, as before?!)
http://www.wovenhand.net
and on site of main band (do they exist anymore?): http://www.16horsepower.com/wovenhand.html
First trilogy of Blush-albums contains best perforamce of Ain't No Sunshine ever.

So they did? Anyway, I am more happy with Wovenhand...
You're welcome, Linda... sad thing about my collection is that it isn't so big... and most of CDRs are burned. Wovenhand isn't imported in Croatia, so I bought last one in Austria; and first two I have burned... I wanna buy them because I think artwork is awesome.

Hi Linda SK:
Good to see you out and about again. I love your new av. I am trying with not much success to get into the heart of what is considered to be 'good' music these days. I don't listen to the radio much, so these threads are so helpful. I keep a running list of who likes what and try to purchase on the faith of the recommendations of others. I've missed a few years of new music and boy, is it hard to catch up!
Thanks for your post and contribution to my 'must check out this CD' list.
Linda.

Yes! I haven't been around lately! There seems to be so much to catch up on! I'm glad you like the new avatar ... since it's actually a wee pic of me, hahaha.
You should really check out Bob Brozman. He's really a lot of fun to listen to. I mean, I wouldn't say he is very deep as far as lyrics go...but he is an amazing guitar player. He plays a lot of old time blues, calypso, and Hawaiian type slide guitar. He just sounds amazing. Even if you don't like the type of music he plays, you can surely appreciate his technique.

Hi T,
I could almost agree with the notion that there is no good music except the older music, but that would be pretty limiting. I think there's a lot of good 'new' music, I'm just trying, now, to find out what it is.
I love David Byrne, or I did when he was doing his Talking Heads thing. See? I've lost David Byrne now. I don't know if he's still with Talking Heads or if he's up to something completely different. I think we should have an ongoing "What I'm Listening to These Days" type of thread. Then we could all share our musical 'discoveries' and old faves.
This is how out of touch I am. Bob Dylan will be in Vancouver (just a few hours from my place) in July. I only learned that this morning. I bet the tickets are all gone by now! Another lost opportunity.
Linda.

wow, yeah, that sucks. what i do is go to ticketmaster and when you type in bands or artists you can add them to your favorites or whatever, and whenever they have tickets that go on sale ticketmaster will e-mail you and notify you.
david byrne hasn't been with the heads for quite a many years now. but his solo stuff is awesome awesome awesome. if you don't own any of his solo stuff, i must recommend getting most of it, hahaha, but my two favorites are "feelings" and "grown backwards." also, his self-titled album is really good but it's hard to find and wasn't very critically acclaimed, but i dig it a lot myself.
