My eldest son was only 6 years old when Liverpool last lifted the cup. It has been a long wait. I remember that night as if it were yesterday. There was magic in the air.

Well Andrew, thank you for your immediate, and generous congratulations.

The song in the thread comes from 'Carousel' and extols the friendship that 'scousers' are known for.

My missus and I are going to the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall on Monday to see Donovan. I can assure you that once the fever and excitement of the next few days has settled down a bit, the concert will still raise the roof. Us oldies who remember the last victory, will be the ones packing the Hall to see an icon of those far off times.

The team is truly a European mix and a great example of how far Europe has come since those dark days of previous centuries. To all other football supporters who managed to watch the match, I can honestly say that I thought we'd lost the game by half time. But, some of that old magic must have been lingering in the air. What a match and what a result!!!!!!!!!

I actually live in the centre of Liverpool and I regret to have to put a damper on your messages of congratulations.

I've just walked home from my local pub this evening and the sights and sounds within that short walk were completlely unbeliveable.

Scouser men and scouser women urinating openly in the streets, the usual
drunken fights between all manner of lost souls, and of course the threatening behaviour from gangs of feral youths taking advantage of the 'celebrations'.

To cap it all I've just found out from my next door neighbour that a gang of 'celebrating' youths have just ran up the next road to mine singing football anthems whilst smashing every car windscreen that took their fancy.

I really do hate the modern game of football with a vengeance for the way it has brought society down to it's lowest common denominator.

Hey ho.
O to be in Liverpool now that 'we' won some cup or other.

Of course you won't hear this side of the celebrations in tomorrow's papers.

I'm confused :? I went to see Donovan in Cheltenham last week, and he didn't sing You'll Never Walk Alone!

Congratulations to all my friends in Liverpool (even that curmudgeon, Liverpoolken :D ) I wish I could go to see Donovan with you. All my best wishes go out to you on your trip to Hydra (more of that in another thread).

linmag, he doesn't sing Walk Alone, but may have to on Monday evening.
I agree with l'poolken. I stopped going to the matches when the players' wages became obscenely high. Ticket prices went up and money took over the game.
I'm simply wallowing in nostalgia.
My own personal response to avid supporters of any football team these days is to ask if, "Their foreign players are better than the other side's foreign players." It seems to annoy some people
My relatives in Eire have been on the phone to say how delighted they are with the result.
A great result that will be spoiled by the 'ferals,' as ken calls them.

Belated Congratulations also from me - I watched the match and I saw that it was Gerard and Dudek who made the difference. I had been in Dortmund in 2001 when the Reds won the UEFA Cup 5-4. Amazing match, too.

Byron - I was 8 years when I watched Dortmund play Liverpool in 1966 in the European Cup Final and Dortmund was the lucky winner with a curious loop goal. It was the first match that I saw on TV live.

:D My belated congratulations on a fantastic match, too! :D

:) Hi Henning, it's great to meet another BVB fan!
(I lived in Dortmund for more than 25 years.)
The first TV football match I remember was also an English-German one - the famous Wembley World Cup final in 1966, when I was six years old. :)

Love, Susanne

Linda,

Not rugby  We are talking soccer here, or footy! Not that I am very knowledgable about either game. I do know however that rugby players have better legs

To be honest, I thought that rugby, soccer and *footy* were all one and the same! Well, my congratulations to someone for doing well at something!
