What do you think the chances are of the documentaries "Bird On A Wire" and "Song Of Leonard Cohen" ever being given official, remastered DVD releases??

Is that on the cards at all?

I have old fuzzy bootleg copies of both. I think they're amazing films that really capture a time. Wouldn't be amazing to see them get some decent treatment!!

Especially "Bird On A Wire." You get a really raw, emotional look at Cohen in that one.

I'd vote for that! There's enough footage for an excellent 'greatest hits' videograph out there too. Maybe the new documentary will also throw up some new material...

Does Leonard have an official biographer? I don't know much about his business. It would be a great idea for someone to document his tour next year.

Authorised biography was Various Positions by Ira Nadel, but I don't think Nadel is the guy who would follow the tour. It's more Jim Devlin, he wrote the book about Leonard (In Every Style of Passion), describing in details all tours, and he followed the last few tours thru Europe. He also compiled the book Is This What You Wanted, enlisting all Leonard's tours, venues, setlists, and existing recordings and broadcastings. He edited Leonard Cohen In His Own Words, run Newsletter for many years, before internet and this site/forum came. But will he go on tour following Leonard, I think that depens on his life situation, like, many years passed, maybe he has more family obligations, serious job etc...

Anyway, if Leonard's new manager doesn't hire someone "professional" to do this, I think it would be only done if someoone who's totally crazy goes to follow LC thru Europe, like Jim, or me, or you.....

Oh ya I could have a crew together in a heartbeat. At least to cover the North American leg of the tour. I could leave Europe to you.

I would find it strange if there were not a documentarist on the tour, I think it is very common place now. History in the making. I know people who are working the Rollins Stones concert this summer...now I am curious to prove my pont, will ask.

I think the CBC could do a doc series. CBC with Mark Starowicz produced 17 part series "Canada a People's History". Mark Starowicz is producing a 10 part series "Hockey a People's History", because all Canadians love hockey

. I cannot find the list of people who made the Greatest Canadian list another show he produced.....what I am getting is CBC could/should do a doc on our Leonard Cohen.

Hi Tri-me,

I think the CBC has done many documentaries on LC. There are a lot of intereviews in this very site, as well on the CBC site. Interviews of Leoanrd years ago, talking to a young, mod-looking Adrienne Clarkson. She was no Queen's rep then, she was a swingin' chick. You should check the CBC archives. The NFB as well, they should have something on Leoanrd, after all, how many productions can they do about Glenn Gould?

A film? It could be a fantastic idea, but it depends.

With the last news about the millionaire having had a financial crash of some sort and needing to do some money again, I am more dubious than ever about this going-back-on-the-stage affair since I have heard about it.

I have 2 scenarii in mind.

The catastrophic one : he would not be able to deliver good shows day after day, people will pay just to see the circus monster, like they are doing for Bob Dylan, right now, according to the critics, and it was going to be only "charity concerts" and in this case, it would be more honorable for him to go beg on corner of some streets. And less sad.

The wonderful one : he would be able to deliver good shows (I mean many good ones, enough to be a fair player of the game), maybe not what he was doing before, but good anyway, and in this case the turn of fate would be a bless for people who would have the chance to assist. So, a film is a must. For the others.
