Ironically, Bono is the guy that many of us (myself included) kicked around a bit on the 'Hallelujah covers' thread. I didn't like his cover, but I sure like his photo!

Aha! Yes, great! I couldn't understand what you meant by stubble, Margaret, as none could be see in the photo posted here. Now, I do

Bono has always looked good to me, however.....particularly, in the song video when the group is walking down the street, but pretty much apart from each other, and then he walks away with his back to the camera....all this to one of those sexy rhythms. I can feel its essence as I write this, but can't bring the lyrics, the song, or the actual rhythm to mind.....just that low-key rhythm in the music and the voices.u What the heck is that song? I gained a lot of respect for Bono when I learned about his 'extra-curricular' involvement in charity/causes.

It is always exciting to see Leonard begin to venture out into the realm of creative/collaborative artistic endeavors. I look back to Jennifer Warnes tribute album in 1987 and what this did not only for Leonard's career, but for his own creative output. The DVD is doubly good news for me as I am a huge fan of the whole Willner tribute series and now to have a professionally produced DVD which will include some actually LC footage is terrific.

I have to share one tidbit regarding U2. I was not a particular fan of Bono's cover on the tribute album although I try not to be too judgmental of music in general-it just didn't work for me. Back in the early 90's, U2 did a stadum concert here in Madison at Camp Randall. Anne and I were not particularly fans, but some friends invited us and we thought that it would be fun on many levels. Our daughters were young teenagers at the time and were 1) upset that we weren't taking them 2) confused, as they had never heard U2 mixed in with the LC stuff. For weeks afterward traveling in the car with the radio on, we would hear from the backseat:

"Dad, do you know who that is on the radio?"

"No."

"That's U2-you went to their concert!"

Although the girls are now mature young ladies who enjoy Leonard in his own right, I can hardly wait to point out this collaboration to them.

I have held back from commenting on this thread.
As all forum members surely know by now, Leonard Cohen is a firmament in my life.
In 1980 , I heard U2 's first album, "Boy".
Each track slid into the other with perfect ease: this band were going places they nor I couldn't see.
Yet I was captured; don't ask why.
I attended a U2 concert in Dublin, their "home ground". This band are so at ease where they belong; the photographs of Bono and Leonard are evidence, recognition and mutual respect .
Any music they make together is a bonus for us all.

Forgive me for hijacking another artist's website, but U2's "City of Blinding Lights" is an absolute BELTER !!!

Two of my sons saw U2 in concert last night in Glasgow: "Dad, you should have been there! What a fantastic performance!".

I saw U2 in concert in Philadelphia and New Jersey in the middle of May. I agree with you about City of Blinding Lights. I screamed my lungs out when they sang Love and Peace or Else as well. I have seen U2 somewhere around 10 times, and I have yet to see anyone put on a better show. They have a way of creating electricity in a crowd the way no one else does.

I'm glad your sons had a great time and had a chance to experience the group live.

I agree wholeheartedly on the U2 performance. We have tickets to the last homecoming show here in Dublin on Monday night. I cannot wait. Looking forward to seeing the Leonard and Bono colaboration. I felt Bono's contribution to I'm your fan was very poor, especially for a man and band who have so much respect and admiration for Leonard and his work.

I haven't heard Bono's contribution to I'm Your Man. Yours is not the first negative review I've heard. Hopefully the collaboration for the film will not be such a disappointment.

I would love to see U2 in Dublin! I'm catching them one more time on this tour when they come back to the States in October. I could never see them too many times.

Maybe we'll get lucky and the rumors about Leonard doing a world tour will come true!

Thanks Vertigo, I did.
An amazing show, When it comes to stadium rock there is no other band playing at the moment that can match the performance the four lads can deliver. They are getting old though, or maybe its the long gap between the albums and tours. This gig was a little less "rocky" than others, nonetheless a show that has to be seen.

Vienna, what a wonderful city to see u2 play, enjoy. I might just go to one of the Amsterdam shows for the craic.
