leonard cohen and the sopranos

Post by moppet »

I've seen the theme song to the Sopranos credited to Leonard Cohen in a number of places - however I cant find any information about it on these sites. Also the artists A3 who perform the song take full credit for authorship. Anyone have any information on this?

I found this on a website of someone who had performed with him (http://www.anjani-music.com/cohen3.htm)
"As with many of his songs, odds are good that ten or twenty years later some other artist will reintroduce it or rip it off successfully into pop culture (i.e. The Sopranos theme)."

I also read that "you can catch Leonard Cohen's Democracy echo in Sopranos' theme" but I think LC is not credited... I myself didn't notice, I must watch next episode this week:-)
So, look for song Democracy on The Future album.

Hey guys I just stumbled over this post by doing a search...I'm interested in more songs similar to:

Leonard Cohen - The Future
Leonard Cohen - Democracy
Leonard Cohen - Everybody Knows

also as it was mentioned in this post:

Alabama 3 (A3) - Woke Up This Morning (the Sopranos' theme song)

They all are very similar in terms of rhythm and messages conveyed, at least they seem this way to me.

Does anybody have further recommendations on similar songs? I have found one by Fun Lovin' Criminals - Scooby Snacks, but it falls slightly short ;-(

Many thanks in advance,

/Dan

I really don't know. I keep with Leonard. Jazz Police? First We Take Manhattan? The Land of Plenty? Did you try these?

Guys I found one more -- Chris Rea - Road to Hell, it definitely fits into the same group as the Leonard Cohen songs (the future/democracy) and the Sopranos (A3) song.!!!

If you guys can think of anything else let me know!!!

Ah, yes, Chris Rea! Now I see what are you looking for. Did you try Bob Dylan's Time Has Changed?

Hi, I've listened to the original and although a great song it's just not in the same league (for me anyway). I find it too folk-like, blue collar-type (other similar songs to me are Bruce Springsteen's - Streets of Philladelphia, and City of Ruins)...

The ones I am looking for are really trendy, cool, and powerful...

Leonard Cohen - The Future
Leonard Cohen - Democracy
Leonard Cohen - Everybody Knows
A3 - Woke Up this Morning
Chris Rea - Road To Hell

That's about it...a few others from the Pulp Fiction soundtrack CD come close but not quite there ;-).

As you can tell I'm quite picky...if you guys can let me know more, I'm all ears ;-)

THANKS!!!
