One song, as performed on the CDs accompanying DVD,
particularly stood out for me as similar. It could just be my
own take on it, though. Glad that you know the music.
That might be it, because I don't have the issue with the DVD.

Anyway, I've always been keen on falsettos. Owl's "On The Road Again", Jagger's "Miss You", Tom Waits and Chuck E. Weiss whenever they do it, and now Springsteen on "Maria's Bed" and "All I'm Thinking About"... It's very funny how a grown man can sound foolish and coolish trying to pinch his voice up where it can't go!
never could stand that dog...

The falsetto works, those two are among my favourites on the album.

Not "Devils and Dust," though it does get mentioned, and the title track partially played, in the course of this interview I heard on NPR last night, with Terry Gross and Bruce, on his new boxed set that's now out. I [of course] love what he has to say on Republicans and the Iraq War, amongst other things.

This is the link to the page. Just above his photos, click on the red, "Listen" button that has Terry Gross, also in red, to the right of it. If you scroll down the page, you'll see that there are three, other interviews with him, available for listening.

I love the fact that Springsteen can still please so many people. Ha! Unlike Rod Stewart, he's not doing 'standards' yet. It's gotta be tough to be consistently 'good'. Few artists can claim a spot in that 'upper' echelon. Damn! I thought John Cougar Mellencamp was going to make it... :?

Thanks for the link Lizzytysh. Nice interview. Unlike his more cynical inspiration, Mr. Springsteen is always happy to be interviewed and seems to love to talk in depth about his songs.

p.s. Linda...I'm not particularly fond of those two songs either on D&D.

I enjoyed it, too, Kush. Figured if no one else here would listen to it, that you would, even though you don't share his politics anymore than you do mine  .

Have you heard that various polls show GWB's approval rating at 36%, 35%, and 37%? The cost of gas, the Katrina debacle, and the Iraq War are the primary reasons cited. There's hope. Those voters aren't stuck in eternal mud :? .

I still need to listen to the album. I sure enjoyed all that Bruce had to say about it.

Hi Lizzy, I only saw this thread yesterday, and I listened to the interview last night. There are three? Anyway I heard one, not all of it cos I was in and out of the room and will listen again sometime. I just love the way he laughs and giggles so much. He has a disarming honesty about him.

I was a bit put out when he said he wouldn't actually say to a woman things like, "I want to die with you Wendy on the streets tonight in an everlasting kiss."

I have been pursuing him my whole life in the hope he would say such words to me.

And my name isn't even Wendy.

Thanks for posting that link Lizzy.

Hello, Linda, haven't bumped into you for a while :) .

I guess I could always change my name?

Hey Diane!

<linda waves back>

I believe the quote is: "I wouldn't actually say to a woman "I want to die with you Wendy on the streets tonight in an everlasting kiss, because linda_lakeside is the one I live and die for". Sorry. :D

Linda.

Hell, Linda, I just listened through again and you're right  . Got to hand it to you, girl. Good job you're not going to Berlin I'd have to scratch your eyes out.

See you,

Diane :D

Well, I was about to say there'd be no point in changing your name to Wendy, since he'd never say that to her, anyway.

However, since Linda Lakeside is the one receiving that everlasting kiss, I guess you could wait till she's not paying attention and make a mad dash into court. Show up that night on the street with your long coat, hat, and scarf allowing only your eyes to show.

When he asks who you are, you'll be Linda Lakeside, of course.

You're welcome for the link. The links for the other two were at/toward the bottom of the page, enclosed in a box, as I recall.

I agree. Bruce interviews very 'naturally' ~ part of his appeal that he doesn't put on airs.

Lizzy, you always see the flaw in the argument . Thanks for the advice. I just officially changed my name to Linda_lakeside :D .

Cheers Lizzy, I'll check out the other links later, too.

 Yes, your sign-off with each other might even become, "See you on the street, or someplace, later...Linda. Linda!"

You're welcome for the first link, by the way. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I still need to listen to the other two, myself [when I get back to work] :) .

See you on the street

(To a British ear, it sounds like we are saying, “see you when we are out soliciting”. Or, maybe just my ear  .)
