LC songs on radio ?

Post by mdidier »

DIRECTV is now carrying XMRADIO channels including LOFT which yesterday surprised me with one of TEN NEW SONGS pieces..... this is the first time I have heard LC on any radio station, which prompts me to ask if there are other places where one might be likely to hear his songs?

Yes ~ other countries  .

Seriously, I've on only rare occasion heard Leonard's songs a couple times on NPR [which would be your public, radio station ~ wherever you are]. I've heard snippets of them a couple times there, too, as a segment they've done has been completed, and they 'fade out' with music. In any form, it's a treat, but just so rare.

Sometimes, some of these all-night songs programs, in college-campus areas, will have some of his songs, too. I know that from a college kid, whom I worked with about 10 years ago, say he knew of a particular song of Leonard's from having heard it there.

Our favourite radio presenter, Jo is playing 4 cohen songs in her show tomorrow (20th Nov... 8pm to 10pm South African time) :)

It is now possible to hear this station world-wide (and in Matlock as well!)

Just click on the link and follow the instructions.. test it before the programme so as not to be disappointed..there may be a download you have to do depending on your pc.

The songs......

Always by Leonard Cohen
Take this Waltz by Amanda Strydom
Hallelujah by John Cale
Bird on a Wire by KD Lang

Enjoy if you get the chance.

I've heard some of Jo's shows before.... she is so smooooth :)

Oh this is really excellent 8) . Can you get back shows, since I won't be in a listening mode until Tuesday? Now, we don't have to wait on her to send us a tape :P  .

Thanks for the link, Pete ~ I can't wait to hear her :D !

cool.... do they "comment" on their music?

I am only finding 2 classical music programmes for tomorrow Nov 20.... no "Jo"...

my eyesight may not be ok, but am not finding the programme in question;I'll try at the appointed time tomorrow and see if I connect...

thanks a bunch Pete..

No - my name won't be mentioned there - I'm one the "bad" ones (as are 99% of the other jazz presenters) who don't hand in a playlist in time for it to be posted anywhere - I print mine as I'm rushing out the door.
And no - I don't comment much on the music - don't want to show my ignorance  The music itself is what's important.

Sorry Lizzy - no "back shows" - it's live... so you'll hear all my "ums" and "aahs" :?

Next week I might play Madeleine Peyroux's Dance me to the end of Love or Chris Botti's 1000 Kisses Deep if you behave nicely.

hmmmm, so does Pete pre-plan your playlist?... since he is listing the LC songs you fully intend to play on air... :? :?: or is it telepathy?

Must be telepathy - I beamed the songs at Pete and he picked them up 100% accurately.

Please be advised this program is subject to change without prior notice.

Only with Pete  ~ him and that telepathic connection he has to the world  . Great to see you here, Jo :D . Miss you around these parts :( . One day I'll figure a way to hear you Live ~ coordinate South Africa times with when I'm at my computer at work, where I actually might be able to hear something :? . It would be just unspeakably cool to finally, after all these years, actually hear that voice of yours 8) ! And know why they said, "Ah, Jo, it's the jazz program you need to host 8) !" Stiiiiiiiilllllll looking forward :D .

Love,

I could say it's telepathy

I could say there is a direct satellite link between Matlock and Cape Town

I could say that Jo was discussing her playlist with me in the chat and this thread had recently appeared so I wanted to tell the whole world

I could say that I dreamt this

I could say that I am Jo's manager and will receive 25% of all her earnings when she becomes famous

It's one of these (or it could be 2....or 3 or 4 or all 5). :D

There's another radio show that plays LC. It's produced monthly and all back shows are available for download here: http://www.longdogs.co.uk/news/index.ph ... s&catid=12

If you scroll down to the second show, March 2005 and click on 'see full playlist' you will see that they played Madeleine Peyroux's Dance Me to the End of Love, then played the show out with Leonard himself singing Closing Time. I only discovered this site last week, so am still working my way through the shows, but all the ones I have listened to so far have been very good. Once I have heard all the ones to date, I will see about requesting more LC to be played specially for us here.
