Happy At Last Litho Signed

Post by Jdiddy »

I figured I would post this on this site as there are many Leonard Cohen fans. I have been a big LC fan some time now and I have a rather rare item in my collection that I am considering putting up for auction. It is what appears to be a lithograph that was put out as a promotional item a number of years ago. It is titled "Happy At Last" and features what I believe is a self portrait painting by Leonard himself. It is hand signed in the bottom right in pencil by Leonard himself. I was told that not many of these were released and I know it has fetched over $300 on Ebay. Can anyone tell me any info about this item? I have this framed and matted and it looks beautiful. I hate to part with it but have decided it is time to offer this to another fan. If interested let me know.

I hope it wasn't a prize winner  . I don't recall whether that was ever a prize.

eBay is overpricing those items. You'll never get 300 dollars.

Lizzytytsh, I was surprised to learn about those lithographs when they started to appear on eBay in last couple years. They were obviously ALL given to wrong people.

So, to answer to your question, Jdiddy, I never heard this was "put out" as the promotional item, or nevertheless, although number of those items, framed & signed, did appear on market. So, I'd like to hear where di you get yours? :-)

Tom, a limited edition (thousands anyway) was given out in Canada
with every Ten New Songs album. Most of the lithos at eBay come from this series, and the signature is not hand-made but printed.

Oh OK; I was here when TNS came out, but I don't remember any litho...:-( But I remember German and French CDs with another booklet, one with lyrics I (Germany), and I think the French one with few drawings. But I didn't find those either, still.
So, it was something like Polich litho for Dear Heather? I'd like to have one of those... Where are our Canadian friends, traders etc...?

If it was given with CD (in greeting card size?), then it's far from hundreds of dollars from various auction sites... http://www.Buysell.com was having it

Well, the signature is definitely hand signed. I have seen numerous ones and they all have their differences in signatures so that shoots down the pre-printed autograph theory. I recieved mine from someone in the industry who had a few extra. I actually selected mine from those available and picked the one with the nicest signature.

I am curious as to what some LC knowledgeable fans think about the authenticity of this piece. It is selling for $2,000 CDN. The letter of authenticity seems a little odd to me because it includes a value estimation with it. Anyways what do you think? Here is the seller's story.

"This is a genuine signed Leonard Cohen lithograph of the master crooner by the master crooner, Leonard Cohen. I won this from HMV in conjunction with Sony, his recording company and have a signed letter that came with it over 20 years ago. Leonard Cohen left us long ago and he signed only 5 of these at a gala event in Toronto at the head HMV headquarters. Famous and legendary singer, song writer, composer and artist, he shared his abstract Happy At Last with me and four others and hallelujah."

Sorry to restart an old tread, but the exact same print, signed in pencil by Leonard Cohen, recently sold in Europe on December 30, 2023 for 370 euros (about $400 US or $570 Canadian).
Details can be found here: https://auctionet.com/en/3174206-leonar ... thographic

Another auction before that, one of these prints sold in the USA for $710 US (about $1000 Canadian).
Details here: https://www.rrauction.com/auctions/lot- ... hen/?cat=9

I would expect one of these prints would fetch a lot more in Canada, which is home to Leonard Cohen's largest fan base.

Hope that helps!
