Brief report on 14th Toowoomba event

Post by Andrew (Darby) »

Our 14th event is now over. As is usually the case, the main evening program had its own special feel and everyone I heard comment on it seemed pleased with it. It was a little more subdued than other years, but still quite intense at times, like when we played the DVD of the induction of LC into the Canadian Songwriter’s Hall of Fame. This was probably my personal highlight from last night’s program. With the bonus of a sound and lighting specialist and suitably effective equipment this year, this technical aspect of the event was unquestionably better than any previous event. 8) The irony of this was that, whilst the sound system was good, my voice was reduced to a croaky low muffled tone (as I had succumbed to a viral throat infection)! I guess there were around fifty people in total who took part in this special night. :D

The event concluded with the relaxed lunch today at the German themed Kaffee Stuble restaurant, where fourteen adults and around half a dozen children enjoyed the low key occasion. Whilst the meal and social interactions were dominant, there were a few quietly sung Cohen songs performed by John Gallagher on acoustic guitar, as well as some readings that primarily featured poems from the Book of Longing (the sole copy of which proved to be an item of some interest). 8)

A more comprehensive report with photos will be completed in due course.

Cheers :)

Thanks Elizabeth! :D

What was interesting from my perspective was, that the event went off really quite well, with a reasonable number attending, even though I was not able to give it the promotional focus it deserved (as I was overseas until a week beforehand)! :o

Cheers :)

Another wonderful event at Toowoomba this year. :D

Thanks to Andrew, all the performers and support people for making such an enjoyable event.

It's also great that a DVD vine started this year at the Toowoomba event.
7 people are enrolled in the 3-disc bootleg vine. I wish we had software for Cohen vines like they have for Bob Dylan vines on http://www.dvdylan.com

For those people interested in getting some bootleg Cohen DVDs (not commercial discs), they are sometimes offered as vines on the dvdylan site.

Thanks Andrew!
