my book

Post by Huck »

hey everyone, this is a bit of a plug, but my work is greatly influenced by Cohen and i think a few of you might appreciate it.

i just brought out my first collection; it is called 'Twenty-Five Poems' and you can buy/download it here: http://www.lulu.com/content/464175

it is a brief anthology of the poetry posted on my site rainoverbouville.co.uk over the past two years. please take a look if you have a moment!

cheers,
Huck

This is precisely the sort of crap the moderators should be dealing with.
Kindly delete 'Huck' and all his excrement.

ha, well, at least i got a response!

how exactly is my post "crap"? this is "Poetry and Music by the Forum Members", which is exactly what i'm offering. nobody has to follow the link if they don't want to.

you're pretty uptight for someone who's into "heresy" and "blasphemy".

p.s. Jarkko, the founder of the Leonard Cohen Files, is aware of my site and was much obliged when i offered to add the LCF to my links. i am not some asshole trying to spam forums just for the sake of selling my product.

You are not a member.
You are a hack who only joined to flog his turgid scribblings.
Now, stick around for a while, post something other than a commercial, and i will change my mind.
This is my best offer.

your best offer? ha, i love how you talk as if you're the big boss man. are you a moderator? no. and what's funnier is that you think i have to prove anything to an incredible prick such as yourself. (i've been reading through your posts and i can assure you i'm not interested in impressing an egotistical pedant who throws his weight around on an internet forum, some of the most cowardly behaviour around.)

i am a member. i joined; that makes me a member. now allow me to reiterate - nobody has to follow the link if they don't want to. and i'm not "flogging" anything. the book is free to download.

ug, why am i wasting my time with a cretin like you? we'll see what the others think of my writing, if they choose to read.

I looked over a few of your most recent poems and found nothing memorable.
How about you post here, in this thread what you consider your best piece of writing?
Maybe you'll get a response to your work and not your antics of promoting your book.

regards,
Laurie

hello Laurie, thank you for your reasonable response!

my best piece of writing? that is hard for me to say. it is hard to be objective, as i'm sure you understand. however, i will have a think.

i am sorry you consider my original post as "antics of promoting". it is really not as cynical as you may think; i was not looking for congratulations or praise, i was simply suggesting that some people might enjoy my poetry. clearly you didn't, but that's life.

You drop of the equivilent of a "flyer" on a windshield and don't even give an example of your work. I don't see how it can be interpreted any other way than "antics of promoting." I wasn't trying to cynical, just realistic.

I am surprised that you don't have a favorite poem, or one that you are most proud sitting on top of a mental pile. I look forward to reading what you determine is an excellent example of what you have to offer.

regards,
Laurie

Sometimes it is hardest to be honest with oneself, Huck.

It's a promo.
It is a promo.
It's a Promo.

Just say it to yourself a few times
and then admit to us that you have self-realised your mistake (in considering that your post is not a promo) and we (including you) will all feel a lot better.

In a way, all postings are a promo. It's not so bad.

i suppose my mistake in posting the link was that i hadn't researched the tone of the board and the attitude of its members; i will admit to that oversight. if i'd taken the time to have a good look around, i might have known my kind of post would not be viewed magnanimously.

however, i am still kinda bemused. yes, of course the aim was to promote my book, but i only hoped it might put a smile on the face of someone who takes the time to read the stuff and possibly hears an echo of a whisper of Mr Cohen's influence.

anyway, i apologise for coming in and making a noise on your board. rest assured i shan't be posting any more ads.

p.s. as for presenting my "best" poem - forgive me for feeling just a little like i am being put on trial! it's true, though; it's only fair that i should participate the same way as everyone else. i am thinking...

You're taking yourself way too seriously (and maybe us). Again, the "attitude" of the board has nothing to do with your reception. It falls on your shoulders alone through your actions which are not 'place' oriented. Promo is promo, no matter what environment. You reinforced this fact by linking only the book's purchase site, and not creating a link for your personal site with the poems.

This is Leonard Cohen forum. You say you are influenced by him. Post something that you think shows that stated fact. It's not a trial. Post a couple of poems. I'd really like to see what you have to share. It's no big deal. You're a poet. You Have to know what shines for you. Just share it.

Welcome to the forum Huck!

(sorry this thread is hardly in the spirit of Welcome welcome cries a voice, let all my guests come in!)

actually Heretic is really a funny guy - sort of an acquired taste just like LC - and I dont know what happened to the official Forum Greeter. Sleeping on the job again I s'pose!

Kush, you know very well that Heretic is nothing of the sort.

I acquired my taste far earlier and with less difficulty for LC than I did for Heretic.

But, hey, Huck, welcome, welcome...and all that. You might have better luck if you just 'post a poem', then you'll get an 'honest'. , yes, that's right, honest, , crit from the board members. I'm sure your book is lovely, but ... it can probably be a 'little better', right? Post, and you shall be read.

Linda.
