Louis Vs Leonard Cohen 'Villinelle For Our Time'

Post by Louis2012 »

Hi folks, I made a song a while ago using Leonard's performnce of Villinelle for our time, I sent it to his management who loved it. I have just made a video for it and put it on youtube. So Lenny fans, check it out...

Hi Louis ~

Thanks for posting this. I can understand why Leonard's management loved it. It's beautiful. If only you could darken the green lettering on the translation of "Friday's Sermon" ~ I couldn't make out what it said fast enough to get it. I'll go back and try to freeze-frame it.

"Whether Labor or Liked[?], the Jews are Jews." [I can't make this make sense at all.]
"They do not have any moderates or any advocates of peace."
I didn't get the next two at all. Can you help me out with the translations?

Thanks.

Thank you Lizzy, glad you liked it. Unfortunately the quality of the source videos I used isn't very good, I took various footage from other youtube videos. One day when I learn to use better video editing software I will remake it in high resolution. I think the sermon text is a criticism of the Jews which is the classic preoccupation of Islam. But the video doesn't take sides with any religion, I'm of the opinion that they're all 'bloody mad'. It's like Lenny's voice acts as a coming together of all beliefs and that man should work together for the greater good instead of fragmented by hatred.

Hi Louis ~

Yes, thanks, I understood the meaning of your video itself. Even if there had been any doubt for anyone, your last superimposed comment about "God protect me from your followers" would have clarified any confusion. I meant that one line and how I couldn't make sense of anything that he might have said in it; but not whether I agreed with it or not, just whether I even understood what he meant. And the next two I couldn't make out at all. When I freeze-frame, it blurs it even more. Were you able to make out what the lines say from wherever you took the footage?

Your video makes your point very well 8) .

I've just zoomed in and the translation says "whether labor or likud, jews are jews, they do not have any moderates or advocates of peace, they are all liars" it goes on to say " they should all be butchered and killed..."yada yada, hate hate, so i left the nasty stuff out. It really disturbs me that so many muslims sat there and listened to that nonsense.

That's dreadful, Louis, knowing the extent of what it really says. One of those times I almost wish I hadn't asked, except that it's helpful to know what all is in your video. I don't know what "likud" means. All I could get was "liked" and, like I said, it didn't make sense.

That's horrible, horrifying stuff.

Absolutely, that's why I didn't bother to improve how the text was displayed, I didn't want to present the actual message of any religious sect but rather use the imagery instead.

What one is able to make out really is enough to make the point. If something is actually there, I just always seem to want to know the exactness.

Thanks. You did a great job of pulling together various elements for "bitter searching of the heart."

Have you read the Qu'ran Louis? Start to finish? Isaac and Ishmael were blood brothers. Be careful, man. Be careful
