I don't think you need feel so bad about yourself, DF. In this group are many different people, all struggling with their identity and the Path of LIfe. In Leonard Cohen they see a Christian salvation, a way to find G-d and listen to good music as well.

I don't think that your job disqualifies you from walking with other Men. Indeed, as Jesus loves us all, he must necessaium love Dairy Farmers!

Try to find the healing powers of muffins and War, when *just* and not too many people die.Cohen has seen the Way and so can you.

I have spent a great deal of this thread agreeing with you but LC does not represent a Christian salvation (If anything wouldn't it be a Judaic or Zen salvation). What LC offers is a Musical Salvation, far more beneficial than any secular salvation.

DF, I do not find religion a subject to make jokes about. If you know anything about Leonard Cohen it may be that he has no sense of humour at all. He is dour and serious, like Our Lord. I suggest you take time away from your herds and join the biggest Herd of all!

Leonard has a magnificent sense of humour, though wry and witty, hence not always immediately recognizable to all. However, it remains that anyone who knows anything at all about Leonard Cohen knows this to be the truth.

His humour is paramount in a lot of his songs.

Have you never seen a video of him. He has a lovely dry humour. If you can't see it you should look to yourself.

I also hope your conclusion comcerning people who like Leonard was a joke. If it wasn't once again you should look to yourself. If that is how you perceive us to be that would suppose you also perceived yourself in that mould. How can you equate being a BAC if you are then saying Leonard is a way to Christian salvation.

I'm sorry, but no, I won't give examples. Paula has already given you one. There are many others. I could easily give more, but when I think of doing so, I think of Leonard himself in interviews, and how he politely sidesteps explaining meaning [s] for interviewers.

I feel the same with explaining his humour. It's there to be found and will be the richer for your having found it yourself. It may require your looking at things from several different angles, but that in itself is a great exercise.

Have you read many [or any] of his interviews in Jarkko's interviews sections, or seen any videotapings or heard any tapes of him being interviewed? I wish you much appreciative laughter and a great learning experience.

Seems to me humour is much misunderstood in this forum - unless it's the slap (you in the face) and tickle kind - but maybe I mislaid mine and accidentally picked up someone elses.

How can one *mislay* humour? That really is beyond me. As for Tower of Song, I'm afraid to disagree but although Leonard has many great qualities, lyrics, drums etc. I do not think he has a Golden Voice at all. Listen to it more carefully, it is croaky and not sexy like modern singers such as Robert Williams or his Dad, Andy.

.....and, speaking of Golden Voice, what *would* you consider humour, Paula H.? Actually, I prefer to take that statement of his literally, but then it's always had a golden effect on me, so it *must* be golden, right?

My sense of humour is a Christian one only. For example, "why did the Christian get baptised a second time?" "because she was born again!"

This sort of joke is brilliant as it has a suprise punch-line and also shows the Way.

Paula H - I agree he hasn't got a golden voice. It is called irony and his music is awash with irony and thinly disguised humour. Perhaps it is too thinly disguised for you.

Having seen the joke you offered I suspect his humour might go over your head. Still we are all different
