Thanks, Alaska. As it turned out, and good thing as I didn't return to this thread until just now, I was very fortunate to be at home when NPR's special segment with Marianne was broadcast. Enjoyed it very much. She mentioned one album as being one that she recorded with the intention of its being the darkest Marianne Faithful album ever and then went on to talk about how she was into drugs [and sex?] at the time. Now, as with so many who survived those times in those days, she's much happier and mellower, and her current album shows it. She does some really fine covers.

As part of her PR she did the Andrew Marr show and he asked her outright if So Long Marianne was written for her, she said "Oh no definitely not, I believe Leonard had a girlfriend named Marianne and of course it was written for her". I read somewhere else that she had gone to see Leonard in Paris and absolutely loved his show (just like everyone else I guess!).

I was lucky enough to get a ticket for St Lukes, it was an incredibly intimate show, she was having conversations with people she knew in the audience and smiling during songs when she recognised certain ones, her ex husband John Dunbar was there, as was her son Nick Dunbar and Anita Pallenberg looking resplendent in a black felt floppy hat. Marianne looked incredible, a lot thinner and dressed immaculately. She said she was very nervous as she said she had never sang most of the songs to an audience before but "that's why I invited you lot because I knew you won't mind if I f*** it up" (I'm sure that won't be broadcast of course!). All in all it was a fantastic night, a once in a lifetime chance to see her in such an intimate setting. I've seen her sing better and with more confidence, but she was utterly charming and just very, well human I suppose, in a way that you don't see other artists allow themselves to be seen.

She was helped down from the stage at the end, but I can confidently say it wasn't because of any inebriation (apparently she hasn't had a drink for a few years) but more because of the shoes she had on!
