Emphatically not a rock star, and he was only really well-known on the Renaissance Faire circuit, but...
Owain Phyfe. He sang in 7 languages, and brought many beautiful medieval and Renaissance songs back into wider knowledge. He died last September, after an illness that probably only seemed brief because he could not afford medical treatment; he performed until he collapsed in pain and died nine weeks later.

john lennon will soon be returning.
Dentist wants to CLONE John Lennon using rotten tooth he bought at auction for $30,000.
Michael Zuk - http://www.bowerdental.com/dentists.html#zuk - says Lennon is 'top of the heap' of people who should be cloned
He now wants to extract the musician's genetic sequence from the tooth
The dentist bought the tooth at auction two years ago for £20,000...

i've been reading a bio of leonard where it says when in london he used to visit an east end dentist for fillings and, appropriately, a wisdom tooth extraction.
where is the wisdom tooth now i wonder - maybe we could start a cloning process while leonard is still with us.
i read that lennon's tie recently sold at auction -

has leonard ever given away ties?

I don't think we could get a clone-Leonard unless we could also "clone" the last 78 years of human history that he's lived through. And honestly, would you wish those 40 or 50 years of depression on another individual? It's a wonder that Leonard made it through alive and strong, still capable of loving and creating great work... but it seems a little presumptuous to make plans in anticipation of another such miracle being provided.

Bob Marley - I know it's reggae, but I had to put it out there.
And the Rat Pack - not rock, but again, I needed to say this.
