Unable to get to NY, I decided to torture myself by joining in the drama on this thread anyway. I haven't laughed so much on the forum for ages! Thank you all for lightening my disappointment, and for those of you fortunate enough to get to the Beacon, have a wonderful time ... and please take a little bit of me with you.

For those who are not familiar with NYC, there are very few hotel choices in the immediate area of the Beacon Theatre on the Upper West Side. That being said, there are a great number of choices in Midtown, one would want to be on the west side of Midtown and in the upper streets if possible (Midtown could be defined as everything from 32nd street to 59th street, and Lexington Avenue on the east to 9th Avenue on the west, and that's alot of territory). 20 city blocks is about a mile, and NYC has a great subway system and multitudes of taxis, so I recommend that NYC newbies not get too nervous about not being as close as possible if the prices are beyond your budget.

Another option is the Chelsea Hotel. It's still alive and (mostly) well. The hotel is a little further south but still an easy subway ride away from the Upper West Side. And then it's close to the West Village too (and all it's pop culture history). It's not the most luxurious, but the rates are reasonable: http://www.hotelchelsea.com/.

Also, consider looking for Bed and Breakfasts. There should be quite a few both on the Upper West Side and in the village/downtown.

I already asked the same question, but didn't get an answer so far. Anyway, I can see it quite clear: There will be about 250 people and we will all get a Happy Meal at Mc Donalds.

Actually - even if I could get a concert ticket at this late stage - the interval is only 20 minutes long.

mickey-one - an interesting idea but I don't think the costume will fit me.

To all the others who have sent me pms over the last 24 hrs - I am sorry to disappoint you but I am a happily married man. I really haven't got time to respond to each individual offer and as they are still coming in thick and fast I will have to make an announcement .
